Catwalk Trend Spring/Summer 2019: Tie Dye

Dior, Prada and Stella McCartney all predicted it; the comeback of the tie dye print. And not just on surfer girl Tees, but on denim jeans, boiler suits and airy dresses. Kaleidoscopic colors too, especially at Dior, that turn this hippie inspired print into a delicate one. Who knew tie dye would ever look this chic, right?!

Balmain Catwalk Fashion Show Paris 2019

From dark and grungy to lightweight and pastel colored; Balmain fw2019 was filled with contradictions. “She’s got attitude; she is a troublemaker, and she doesn’t care. She’s defiant, but she is a paradox: She can be sweet and romantic too; she can be an angel . . . or she can be a devil. She cannot be categorized”, said Olivier Rousteing. Well there you go. The first looks were covered in spikes and studs. Yes that’s the dresses, skirts, leather jackets, shoes AND bags. Halfway throughout the collection they made way for a much more delicate image. Like flower embellishments, white fur and bleached boyfriend jeans. Shoulders were strong as ever as the super short A-line skirts couldn’t have been more pronunciated. The finale was dark, dramatic and 3D with floor sweeping capes, architectonic patent leather and bare shoulders, bellies and see through tops. A collection filled with bold statements. We’re curious to see which of them will make it out on the streets (or red carpets).

Missoni Catwalk Fashion Show Milan FW2019

Most labels are focusing on their roots and heritage these days and today’s Missoni show was no exception. The knitwear brand once and for all proved what their most famous for (which is creating outstanding knitwear pieces), by producing a collection in which every single piece was knit. From the suits, the dresses, the cardigans and the polo shirts to the coats and the pants. Yes even the hats and the waist bands. The collection had a rather nomadic feel, hence the striped ponchos. Head wraps for the girls, Fes hats for the guys. Lots of color, lot of comfort. And who wouldn’t want to cosy up in layers of Missoni?

Burberry Catwalk Fashion Show London FW2019

Burberry started off young and vibrant. With cool kids wearing polo shirts, rugby shirts, leather jackets, colourful checks and V-neck tops. The girls wore their hair in a tight bum, but had the coolest artwork of small little hairs on their foreheads. Halfway through the show Sara Eirud turned up in an enormous puffer coat. What a way to shake and wake things up! A few asymmetric patchwork dresses and corseted tops in the mix and then on came the trenchcoats. The second – and better – half of the show was filled with the chicest looks; perfect posh cocktail dresses, skirt suits, capes and trenchcoats with the iconic check as a lining (the classic coat everyone would love hanging in their closets). Not to mention the picture perfect men’s tailoring. So eventually Riccardo Tisci pleased everyone. Fashion forward statement makers at the beginning and signature success numbers (that will generate most of the label’s income) towards the end.

Coach Catwalk Fashion Show New York FW2019

So here’s a few trend items you’d might want to hold on to a bit longer. Small, pointy sunglasses, boxy tweed blazers, shearling coats, animal printed anything. Today’s Coach collections included all these trends and a bunch of fresh ingredients Stuart Vevers added for fall. Most looks existed of sheer floral dresses worn over checked pants (or shorts) paired with a heavy coat and leather laced boots. Bare legs and faux fur coats (Coach is officially fur free since October). Transparent florals and the thickest leather’; the layered looks were perfectly balanced out with opposing item. The coach boys and girls looked cool and collection in the range of wearable fits.

Marc Jacobs Catwalk Fashion Show New York FW2019

Marc Jacobs presented us with a complete A-line shaped collection this week. Forget cinched waists, the volumes of Jacobs dresses only got bigger and bigger from the shoulders down. It all started off with a anima printed cape followed by lots of voluminous and heavy capes and coats. Costum-y dresses with exaggerated proportions, tulle, feathers and ruffles in the mix. Looks topped of by the Stephen Jones–designed hats. It felt like a classic game of dress-up in your grandmother’s attic. There might have been a few award show worthy gowns in this collection. Yet apart from wearing these designs to such extravagant occasions like the Oscars or the Golden Globes the collection lacked wearability and modernity for clothes to be worn anywhere else. Then again that probably isn’t a concern for Jacobs at this point.

Keep fishing! We spotted net bags at Armani, net shoes at Altuzarra and mesh clothing at the likes of Louis Vuitton, Sonia Rykiel, Etro, Ferragamo and JW Anderson. Beach ready or office proof this netting trend blends in with any dresscode perfectly. Worn over tops and dresses it creates that extra special layered effect. And what better way to make your outfit literally breathe. So besides looking on trend it helps to take things lightly next season.

Catwalk Trend Spring/Summer 2019: Utility Mode On

Overalls, cargo pants, tool belts and utility vests; it’s all about functional fashion these days. Wear your clothes oversized, in earthy tones and covered with a variation of pockets (and even pockets on pockets!). No extra bag(s) needed anymore. Thanks to Virgil Abloh and his concept of ‘accessomorphosis’: the transformation of bags and wallets into clothing. Just make sure you remember what you put in which pocket. Or you’ll have a hard time finding your car keys or American Express card and you’ll end up making things even more complicated instead.

Catwalk Trend Spring/Summer 2019: Biker Shorts

“I want to ride my bicycle!” Biker shorts are here to stay (for a little longer). Kim Kardashian must be so proud having been promoting this style for seasons now. And finally it’s really taking off! Wear them chic or street, with heels or dad sneakers, off shoulder tops or a cropped fur coat. It takes some guts to dare to rock this trend, but if you can pull it off you better enjoy it (to the fullest) while it lasts!
