Victoria Beckham Catwalk Fashion Show New York Spring Summer 2017

Easy, relaxed, free spirited; that’s how Victoria wants herself and her women to feel and dress like. In order for them to do so she created a refreshing range of effortless clothing for spring summer 2017. Voluminous looks with a focus on the hips in which women of many sizes can feel comfortable. Far away from the glamorous looks that were once part of la Beckham’s signature. ‘I really feel I’ve come into my own this season. This is how I want to dress now. It’s looser, much more effortless, more comfortable. I wanted the clothes to look like they’d just been thrown on”, she said backstage.
And might you think velvets and boots are no match for the summer season, just click through the gallery. In shades of lilac and turquoise Victoria’s deconstructed velvet dresses looked as fresh as can be. Worn with airy knee high boots they form some odd summer attire. A daring style choice, that will undoubtedly give Victoria Beckham even more fashion credibility as a designer. Coming up with a range of bras that will do little good to most women’s breast might not be the most commercial move, but in the world of fashion it might just do the trick. Same goes for the matchy matchy shoulder bags Victoria created in the exact same fabrics as her outfits. A style choice most people would refer to as a fashion no go, but who knows Victoria might just be able to turn it into a hit. And even if it didn’t become all the rage the woman Victoria is trying to portray could probably not care less. She is relaxed and confident in any outfit.

WOMENSWEAR TREND FW2016: High Gloss

If last season was all about suede, this fall your leather should be shine. If it’s up to the likes of Lacoste, Proenza Schouler and Valentino, that is. Patent leather is all around. Wear it as a coat (like Lacoste, Isabel Marant, Proenze Schouldr, Valentino and Versace showed you) or go bold with that orange colored patent leather dress Lacoste had us fall in love with. Ether way, a shade or orange/red might be your best bet. Casual with flats (Valentino) or sensual with an elegant pump (Versace); patent leather is no longer doomed to the tacky dresscodes. High gloss for the high rollers. Let it shine!

WOMENSWEAR TREND FW2016: suits

The skirt suit sure made a cute comeback last year. Yet for fall the suit is kicking back big time. We’re heading back to work in some of the most striking suits. We’re spotting long suit jackets at Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta and Gucci. While Sonia Rykiel and, the ultimate office attire provider, Armani are going for something shorter. And if there’s one way to summarize all suits it is by stating anything and everything is possible. Office proof in a purple velvet number including a skinny scarf (Bottega Veneta)? Or business chic in a pair of culotte pants, matching jacket and enormous velvet bow (Marc Jacobs)? Or why not skip that bow and scarf all together and opt for something way more seductive, like that grey suit jacket worn with a pair of pinstripe pants (Max Mare)? And you know in an outfit like that it’s a small step from desk to dancefloor. You’re 9 to 5 wardrobe rack just got a whole lot more versatile.

The Tartan hype instigated by Saint Laurent 3 years ago had not left the fashion field just yet or we’re experiencing a new wave of tartan checks. So in case you’re bored with those flannels but are looking for a way to work some of the Scottish print into your wardrobe, some of the biggest brands are setting the new style example. More than anything else a tartan coat seems to be the key item, just look at Balenciaga, Burberry, Chanel and Etro. Not your thing? That blue shaded Calvin Klein skirt suits might be the most elegant tartan printed piece out there. But of course you can always try a head to toe checked Todds look with off white loafers and a fur collar. Which ever style you’re going for, just ignore that over the top Frankenstein shirt Vetements sent out. It’s a definite case of don’t try this at home, but let it be your ultimate tartan inspiration leading you to a better fit. And if the kilt is going to be your best buy, make sure to wear some undies with it.

WOMENSWEAR TREND FW2016: navy coat

You can bet on preppy designers like Tommy to have a navy coat in his collection. But when Burberry, Prada and Valentino are jumping at it too, you’ve got yourself a trend. Unless you’re opting for a bright colored faux fur version, we discussed earlier, midnight blue should be the color of your army coat. And the bigger your buttons, collar (Hilfiger) pockets (Prada), belt (MiuMiu), stitches (Burberry) and patches (Coach), the better. Both Prada and Valentino also proved the navy coat doesn’t have to be so rigid. Have fun with it a little bit. Dress up and dress down with corsets, army boots and little bags (around your neck?!). A sailor cap (Prada), rock earrings (Proenza Schouler) or oversized beanie (Coach) might just top this statement coat off perfectly. Fall musthave, for sure.

Black, white and leopard! A short stroll through the city centre and you know what’s up; the leopard print has become the new neutral. And if you look at how some of the biggest brands have worked the print into their fall collection you’re even surprised it took this long for the wilde print to hit the mass market. Christian Dior had it coming when he first introduced the print and this fall we’re following his lead big time. Was the print quite subtle before, this season it’s statement making and in your face. So a leopard printed coat might just be your best bet. At least Bottega Veneta, Dior (who else), Givenchy, Isabel Marant, Margiela, Moschino and Prada are going for it. Also, you can’t go wrong with animalistic touches on a dress (Saint Laurent), a jacket (Sonia Rykiel) or accessories like a stole (Dries van Noten). Just take a walk on the wild side and get rid of the idea that leopard prints are tacky or outrageous. They’re just so basic right now.

Just click through the Dries van Noten, Prada and Gucci catwalk images and you know brocade is in style. The richer the materials the better the look. Minimalism couldn’t be further away. The more ornate the better. All that glitters are coats (Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Prada), sequined tops (Dries van Noten) and embroidered velvet dresses (Roberto Cavalli). Once worn to convey social status in places like Byzantium, China, and Italy, this fall you’re wearing these luxurious pieces to convey your sense of style! Downdress your brocade look with some denim and a crispy white Tee to add some street chic appeal. Or just follow Gucci’s example and go all the way with some expensive oversize square-frame rhinestone sunglasses, a turban and fur sleeves.

Stripes, you can bet your bottom dollar that it will pop up between the spring summer trends sooner or later. How many trend reports we’ve written on stripes the past couple of years… This season is no exception; the stripe is widely represented at some of the biggest international brands. Dolce & Gabbana introduced multiple bright colored versions of the broad stripe on their skirts and dresses. Prada introduced countless variations of the striped skirt suit. At Missoni the airy, colored knitwear pieces had stripes all over. As Alexander Wang focused on monochrome sporty stripes. Tommy Hilfiger, Stella McCartney, Max Mara and House of Holland joined in on the fun. While we’re stacking up on anything bright and striped. Horizontal, vertical, on airy knits, floaty silks, for night, for day, to work, to the beach. And if you can’t figure it out; just opt for a Breton sweater and some destroyed denim and you’re dressed both classic and on trend.
