Trend Report SS2018: Slingback Style

After midriffs, under boobs, color bones and buttocks the most sexy parts to show off this summer are your ankle and your heel. And so slingbacks and slippers are all the rage the upcoming months. In shiny pink satin or patent red, velvet, fur lined or Swarovski encrusted; looking sexy yet careless and cool was never this easy. Best combined with a statement skirt or a pair of ripped jeans. And the best part? In those kitten heels you’ll easily be able to strut around all day. Good shoes take you good places. There’s no denying that.

From hips to waists and back again; the focus changes every few seasons. For SS2018 waists are the focus point of the summer silhouette increasing sales of waist belts and bags. Clicking through our streetstyle images the Gucci bag is without a doubt the most worn, followed by Prada and Chloé. Sure, we’ve wrote on yellow, white and even rainbow shades being the colors of the season. But there’s one shade that has been ruling the streetstyle scene for years now. Pink is still popping up in mens and womenswear, shoes, bags, sunnies and accessories. Are you going head to toe in different pink hues or opting for that one statement piece? Which ever the case you’ll be sure to make heads turn and smiles appear. Girly, playful and not to miss. Think pink (for at least another season).

“We often play with the idea of two people being one, or both of us being of one mind, and we play with our image to express that”, said Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren in this weekend’s press conference that formed the kick off of a brand new exhibition on the designer duo. For 25 years (and counting) Viktor and Rolf have been working together creating extraordinary fashion collections and beauty without boundaries. A symbiotic relation in which it’s impossible to see the designer’s separate contributions, as the duo puts it. Every creation, every design, every collection is a result of their joint work and the designer duo has proven to be a super match. And so 25 years after they won three prices at fashion contest Salon Européen des Jeunes Stylistes in Hyères it was time to reflect, to elaborate and to celebrate.

‘Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists 25 Years’ is curated by Thierry-Maxime Loriot (who also curated the globally successful The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk) and based on the Viktor & Rolf exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne but slightly adjusted to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the luxury fashion house.

Expect to see the designers most impressive designs and creations among which sixty of their haute coutre dresses. Discover what makes Viktor & Rolf stand out in the fashion industry (their constant interplay of fashion and art). Get blown away by the countless examples of their ‘wearable art’. Learn how their designs speak of the contrast between romance and rebellion, exuberance and control, classicism and conceptualism.

All the highlights of 25 years Viktor & Rolf have found their way into the Kunsthal and so all of the brand’s most iconic designs have been lined up. Like a wide range of the antic porcelain dolls wearing scaled versions of the designers most famous creations. Like the bridal dress covered in countless bows the duo designed for Prinses Mabel van Oranje-Nassau in 2004. Like a costume the designers created for Madonna in 2016. Along with countless other outstanding pieces from much rooted on collections like Bedtime Story (2005), The Fashion Show (2007), NO (2008), Cutting Edge Couture (2010), Red Carpet Dressing (2014), Wearable Art (2015) and Van Gogh Girls (2015). As well as some never shown before pieces from Boulevard of Broken Dreams (2017), Action Dolls (2017/18) and the designers’ latest Surreal Satin (2018).

No need for the Kunsthal to create installations or formations to make things look more interesting, surprising or step away from any ordinary line/sum up of designer clothes. With every creation of every collection already being a piece of art on it’s own this is by far the most versatile fashion exhibition on one fashion house we’ve visited.

Trend Report SS2018: White Suit

If last season was all about grey colored tweed suits, for summer keep it crispy in an all white suit. Fully buttoned with a shirt underneath (as seen at Jil Sander and Acne) or a little (a lott) more seductive like the way Tom Ford pictured it. Either way a full on white suit can make you look sharp and summer proof at the same time. Shoes and bags can be the touches of color. You just make sure you don’t spill any coffee in that business meeting you’re gonna kill wearing that suit.

Who ever still holds on to the thought red and pink make for a bad color combination should think again. After a few seasons of absence it’s a thing again this season. Oscar de la Renta, Coach and Isabel Marant it can look both tough and girly. No powder colors or faded shades; opt for bright and keep it vivid. Go all out with shoes, bags and accessories like Isabel Marant or keep it clean and focus on the clothes as seen at Oscar de la Renta. Think pink and look red hot!

Trend Report SS2018: The hots for polka dots

We could see Megan Markle or Kate Middleton rock any of these designs in the near future. Given that these summer dresses are a great fit for a summer tea party with the (royal) family. Knee length and chest covered, black and white; very British, very modest. Quite the classic tea dress attire, but as for SS2018 very on trend as well. Marc Jacobs crazy spike hairdo aside this trend translates perfectly into any modern day woman’s wardrobe. A colored pump to match and it’s tea time (to party)!

Want to add a little of drama to your outfit? Opt for some asymetrical necklines. It just breathes sexiness and seductiveness and can stress just the right parts of your upper body. Haider Ackermann and Prabal Gurung showed how light shades like white and yellow can create the ultimate asymmetry on a female body. While Calvin Klein and Isabel Marant proved those lines work well in black and at nighttime too. A trend that says summertime as well as partytime. Now let’s get ready to create some asymmetrical tanlines to match!

Trend Report SS2018: Ravishing & Ruching

If a dress should be anything this summer it would be ruching. Tight, body hugging and ruching that is. Making both the silhouette and fabric look even more interesting. Dolce & Gabbana, Tom Ford and Peter Pilotto showed their ruching designs in the prettiest pastel shades. Sorbet sweet and extremely feminine. Nice little side note: you can eat that extra plate that might make your dress wrinkle even more and no one will notice. No need to iron and not (even) suitable for ironing either. Just look ravishing while ruching along.

Trend Report SS2018: Print Mix

Mixing prints; it might be one of the loudest summer trends of 2018 and we’re obsessed. Cause basically you can’t go wrong with this one. Match your florals with some polka dots (Mary Katrantzou), veggies (Dolce & Gabbana) or checks (Marni). Pair graphic with exotic and don’t even mind the color code of your fit. Flash it, clash it and layer up like there’s no tomorrow. No rules, just go and be the ultimate prin(t/ces)s charming you can be.
