Maison Martin Margiela, Gianvitto Rossi, Fendi, Sophia Webster, Rag & Bone, Pierre Hardy and Jimmy Choo have some strong ones in their collections. Now you might be thinking.. Trend Report SS2014: Leave Your Hat On

What can we say, a good hat not only makes a perfect outfit, but also a beautiful picture. No wonder so many mad hatters visit fashion week every season. From felt to straw, square shaped, flappy or asymmetrical, from sober to brightly colored; a light weight hat is your go to accessory this summer. Great for that mysterious look, nice little extra SPF and completely on trend. Right Marni, Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, DKNY, Acne Studios and Olympia Le-Tan? Our best bet: the white Panama. Hats off for this stylish S/S trend!

Trend Report SS2014: Wild Thing

Oh animal print, we just can’t get enough of you. We might have said everything there is to say. The past few decades we have adored you more than you know of. We’ve ditched you and fallen back in love with you for so many times. And still it’s not yet over. This summer too we’re preparing to rock you like no other trend. We’ll bring the slightly updated version of you back into our closets. Sure leopard, our love, you’re our favorite this time around too. Yet we’re using you as a subtle little extra. On a pair of shoes, a shoulder bag, a silly hat. New variations come in crazy animal prints taking pretty literal. Like on that red baboon dress we shot, or the cock printed coat Mira rocks in one of our pictures. The print possibilities are endless, you’re such a wild thing!

Trend Report SS2014: Colorless

There are those fashion lovers that stick to black their entire life. And there are fully white attire fanatics around just as well. But for everyone else the good old black & white is the safest go to color combination. No they might not even be called colors, but the styling options they provide are never ending nonetheless. Just take a look at our streetstyle gallery and tell us there’s not a look you’d love to wear yourself. Well? Isn’t the black and white trend a all time favorite that is just for everyone. You might not like prints, you could be totally against wearing dresses, perhaps high heels are you’re worst enemy, but the monochrome look you can’t resist. Work it with a little sixties vibe this season and look at fashion luminaries Alexander Wang, Victoria Beckham, Rodarte and Celine for inspiration.

Trend Report SS2014: Stripe Hype

Like floral prints and monochrome looks the stripe trend has been around for quite a few seasons now. From pin to jumbo stripes+ we´ve seen all kinds of variations pop up on A-line skirts, strapless dresses and partly striped pieces. Yet the most popular striped look probably is the most classic as well; a simple blue and white sweater paired with some jeans of pleated trousers. Very French, very chic! Oh and what did you think of the endless amount of striped accessories we spotted. From striped and quilted Chanel bags to almost cartoonlike shoulder bags. As you can read between the lines we´ve got a feeling this trend is just not over yet.

Trend Report SS2014: Grande Entrée

More than your shoes, your (it-)bag and your hair this season the statement making is really done by your coat. The styles are outspoken; boldly printed, bright colored or architecturally shaped and always carelessly tossed around the body these summer coats are bound to have you make a grande entrée. Our favorite one, shot in the streets of Paris is the yellow/greenish version, effortlessly paired with a chic tweed ensemble, showing some leg for the perfect proportions. A great coat goes a long way…

Trend Report SS2014: Name Dropping

While Selfridges introduced a whole range of de-branded food products the world of fashion is holding a serious game of name dropping. Large fashion houses (Kenzo, DKNY, Acne and Dior) as well high street names are screaming for attention by placing words and logos in all the right places. Not the owner of a luxury logo? A touch of humor in the form of brand-like prints such as “Celfie” and “Homies” has proven to go a long way. Classic sport brands Nike and Adidas are experiencing a huge logo revival and, of course Chanel’s CC (perhaps printed on a backpack) is your best asset in this name dropping business.

COSMIC

(Dsquared², Balenciaga, Gucci, Wang, Iceberg(

A touch of Barbarella spotted at Dsquared² with a slice of lunatic glamor. Much more strict, square and bold, the sporty hybrids of Balenciaga show a playful touch of humor. Cosmic starlets in leather mini’s at Gucci. More utility at Balenciaga, ready to hunt or to enter the lab? Chunky sweaters treated with crinkly silver foil, like an astronaut’s space suit at Iceberg.

 

WARRIORS

(Haider Ackermann, Rick Owens, Rick Owens, Haider Ackermann, Barbara Bui)

Brace yourself, the troups are nearing. The heroins of Haider Ackermann, show feminine and masculine symbiosis, in longer then long sumptuous slouchy suits.

Family tribes and high priestesses at Rick Owens wear sleeveless tunic dresses and ponchos in primal knit, felt and leather skins. Modern day cocooning goes elegant at Ackermann in lush jersey cap-sleeved onesies, the hit of the season. Barbara Bui shows chunky and sharp tailored jerseys.

WITH A SWIRL

(Chalayan, Dries van Noten, Christopher Kane, Roland Mouret, Just Cavalli)

Most excitement was in the added dynamics. All moving layers and slits in Hussein Chalayan’s gauzy gowns, glittering in liquid textures. Dries van Noten’s pattern mania shows psychedelic swirl with a rave quality. Christopher Kane’s organza dresses ruffle, since composed of fifty dark-trimmed leaves of the fabric. Sculptural as well as ethereal. Roland Mouret’s stiff coated tweed is animated by a swirling laser cut fringe skirt. Just Cavalli shows racy metallic collage prints, exuberant applications and skirts with an elegant swirl.

The Big Round Up Womenswear FW14, Part 2

This is part 2 of our trend-overview of the coming fall season. Between the continuous feel for sobriety, for real clothes and a new found spirit for informality , we did spot some true fashion statements. In percentage not that many, but nevertheless there. Found mostly in expressive materials, holographic coatings, laminations, cuts, fringes, 3D embellishment and eye-catching patterns. Where past seasons were strong on craft we now sense a steady shift towards technology.

CRAFTED LUXURY

(Céline, Altuzarra, Stella McCartney, Michael Kors, Michael Kors)

Love for raw refinement. Céline wrapped her model in fluffy feather fringe, Altuzarra in simple elegant shifts from crafted tapestry weaves, Stella McCartney’s comfy tweed parka’s showed an earthy tribal feel, where Michael Kors went for maximum luxury in ombré pullovers, chocolate brown feather fringe and masculine suits made of floating luxurious cashmere tweeds.

 

L’ART DECORATIF

(Missoni, Burberry Prorsum, Bottega Veneta, Peter Pilotto, Tod’s)

Missoni showed abstract patched tanks in boiled and felted knit. Reflecting on Bloomsbury, Burberry hand-painted cashmere shawls to be worn on mohair coats. Technical wizardry was used to create this pattern magic – zigzag puzzles at Bottega Veneta. Exuberance and excess in trippy and clashing geometric prints at Peter Pilotto, where Tod’s showed mosaic-like lozenge patterns in multiple techniques.

 

THE WILD ONES

(Miu Miu, Saint Laurent, Fendi, Alexander McQueen, Marni)

A flavour of the primal. Miuccia Prada layered her padded and quilted dresses with grand volumes of fluff for Miu Miu, Saint Laurent‘s cool, pop princesses strolled the catwalk in fur, lazy with casual extravaganza. As human cats in long haired fluff. Wild beauty at Alexander McQueen, and – this is a quote – incongruous incursions of fur at Marni, just figure out yourself what this might be…

First View Paris Womenswear FW2014: Mini Mini

Mini is a topic in Paris and we want to share it with you.
Lanvin goes costumy with intergalactic references in a square cut boxy mini dress with swinging metal fringe. A sculptural look with a weightless appeal. We call this mini with gravity.
Miuccia Prada for Miu Miu takes the banal, the ordinary and everyday and made it desirable and luscious. She stages young girls in windbreakers and pea coats, with rucksacks but nevertheless very chic. Girly dresses that reveal the knees, frivolous with a sporty twist.
Slimane dresses Little Red Riding Hood for Saint Laurent, with a wiff of Tinkle Bell esprit. Poppy capes that cover the Parisian classic – the little black dress. Casual extravaganza for pretty pop princesses.
Nicolas Ghesquière was listening to the girls for Vuitton – what they want, what they need. Joy was the word. Cosmic holographic coatings adorn zipped shifts in subtle skin shades in A-line cuts with a 60s vibe.
All lighthearted and leggy!
