BEAUTY TREND SS2016: Easy breezy summer (h)air

Oh yes! Summer is finally happening. Time to enjoy the sun rays, ocean breeze and mojito’s (like we need an excuse for that anyway). Summer excites us, and that’s for lots of reasons. And one of them is that this change of weather makes us want to try new things that fit the season. Not only the clothes, but also hair do’s that match our wardrobes and do well when it’s hot and steamy outside. We selected one of the coolest do’s to rock this summer. And let us tell you one thing: If you’re craving a dramatic hair change, now is the perfect time.
1. Straight Up
Bring in the straitening iron. The straighter the hair, the better. If you want to go all the way, do it like Mary Katrantzou’s girls and go for a wet-look with a side part. Plus, a little bit of cooling down never hurts anyone.
2. Buzzcut
Well, this will definitely create a buzz. That’s for sure. This one’s for the bold gals, not afraid to be less ‘lady-like’. Take for example British catwalk dominator Ruth Bell, the coolest model on the block right now. With her blonde buzz cut but delicate facial features, you will remember her from the very first moment. Now, the 19-year-old has been walking for the biggest brands, like Max Mara, Gucci, Versace and Etro and is the face of Saint Laurents Cruise 2016 campaign. Wether you like it or not, at least this cut is highly summer proof.
3. Boyish crop
Next to the buzz cut, we have the boyish cut. Same category, but slightly different. And the best way to present this to you is through model and Alex Wang favourite, Isabella Emmack. She chopped off her long brunette tresses to change it for a punky, black, pixie cut. It has a manly appearance but in a soft and cool way, don’t you think?
4. Pastel
It’s impossible to miss that pastels are a huge thing this season. Same goes for our runway models. We’ve counted many pinkish slash coral slash Rose Quartz coloured hair do’s. Look at those baby pink locks at Louis Vuitton (pow pow!) or the coral-toned appearances at Carven. And how about Westwood’s take on pastel wigs?
5. Cool and c-c-curly
Or you take it as big, bold and beautiful as one of our favourite Dutchies Imaan Hammam. Or the other option is to play it less obvious and glam, but still rock your summer with cropped curls.
6. Hair accessories
From flower clips, tiaras and ribbon ties. For the perfect examples take a look at DVF, Rodarte, Saint Laurent, Chanel and Lanvin.
BEAUTY TREND SS2016: You Got it Twisted

Forget those French braids, fishtail braids and waterfall braids tutorials you can never get right. This season’s hair trend offers yo one of the easiest braid styles of all time: the rope braid. First, put your hair into a ponytail and create two sections. Then twist each one in the same direction, cross the two sections over each other and secure it at the ends with an elastic band. Was a DIY-explanation ever this short? Seems like a hair styling gig anyone can try out. And even though it’s half the effort you would otherwise put into those other braids, the result is just as chic. Just look at how the hair artists at Altuzarra, J. W. Anderson, Alberta Ferretti, Gucci and Sportmax interpreted the hottest hairstyle trend of this summer. We say: it’s the ideal holiday hairdo; straight out of the pool, keep it cool. You got it twisted!
BEAUTY TREND SS2016: (L)ashes to (l)ashes

Audrey Hepburn once said: ‘For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others.’ We can’t disagree on that one for sure, but this summer a good pair of eyes also stands her ground by some fake ol’ lashes. This season we were introduced to the spidery long false lashes (did they ever actually leave the fashion scene anyway?!). Make it big, exaggerated and doll-like seems to be the message from several designers. Make those eyes pop out like never before.
Marni showed clusters of lashes both applied to the lower and upper lash lines for a doll-like effect. Although XXL, it was still sophisticated in some way. And of course there was makeup wonderwoman Pat McGrath to take on the Louis Vuitton models with a pair of heavy futuristic false lashes. Like Japanese cartoon style but in a modern way. And Giorgio Armani took the gentle way, for a little bit more romance. I hear you thinking: yeah right, like I got time for that in the morning? You hear the clock ticking and your mascara is most times a 1-minute fix (or an actual catastrophe). You have clumps and lumps in your lashes and it’s all over your face even before you enter the office. Great! Well, actually it is great, because that’s exactly where you’re heading towards. Make sure you first use lengthening mascara and afterwards a volume mascara. And make it thick, black and playful. And use fake lashes like you never did before. What else can we say: wave those lashes, baby.
WOMENSWEAR SS2016: It-shoes of the season

You might still be rocking your Stan Smith sneakers (and that is A-OK), but it’s about time to switch things up a bit. Summer season is just around the corner and a new season asks for some fresh footwear. Towering high or flat as a pancake, simple and sober or accessorized to the max; there’s a shoe trend to match every style. Let us walk you through it.
From silver lining to silver shoes. Sky high as seen at Gucci or fiercely pointed as shown by Givenchy. You’re bound to feel like a princess. And you know what..these shoes are made to hit the dancefloor!
Word on the street is Western booties are having a major moment. Just look at how Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam and Céline interpreted the trend. Some daisy dukes and an off shoulder ruffled top to match and you’re good to go.
At Gucci and MiuMiu the high heels were an absolute shoe party. Proving you can think out of the box with shoe details like studs, buckles and bright colors. Shoe statement!
Comfort first with the geisha inspired sandals Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel and Chloé introduced. Decorated with colourful pompoms or worn with socks; hello Huarache girls!
Living on the edge gets a whole new meaning with the platform shoes Chanel, Stella Mc Cartney, Versace and Dries van Noten designed. The ultimate footwear to add a few extra centimers and act as if you have legs for daysz.
Cool kids Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger (who else?!) are sticking with the urban sneaker style. Whether clean or given a colourful update the white sneaker still has what it takes.
Balansé and Élevé; better work on your ballet dancing skills if you want to rock Miu Miu’s latest it-shoes. And if you’re up for some ankle ribbons a tight body to match is the next step. Tutu!
So, now you know what shoes to match your summer wardrobe. Which ever style you opt for, just have a little fun with it. The summer is yours!
WOMENSWEAR SS2016: get your freakum dress on

‘Hold out your back. Time to impress. Pull out your freakum dress.‘ Beyoncé already knew what she was talking -we mean: singing- about back in 2009. And surely every woman knows what a dress can do for her. Especially in summer. And with the temperatures rising, it’s time to put that freakum dress on. But which one? The options this season are countless (and sooooo good!). Wether it’s for a summer wedding, holiday or weekend and date night. Let’s just say: dresses you want to live when it’s hot outside. What better than finding that dress you can just throw on, and you’re ready to go (sounds like a perfect solution if you’re always late, right?!) Choose for fluidity (Calvin Klein), longer lengths (Victoria Beckham), minimalism (Jil Sander), ruffles (Michael Kors), kaftan style (Missoni) and nothing beats a bold colour dress (Ralph Lauren) on a tanned skin. Or what about the bikini-ish dress from thakoon? It’s the best of both worlds. We foresee a great number of women wearing this stuff. So tell us, who’s that hot child in the city, running wild and looking pretty…
MENSWEAR TREND ss2016: Just Drop It
When it comes to hemlines in the womenswear department they seem to change a bit every year; rising and dropping in line with the latest trends. This year menswear shorts are doing the same thing. Hemlines are dropping and long shorts seem to dominate the SS2016 menswear image. Balmain, Armani and Dsquared are just a few of the brands covering the longer short for summer. Yet the fact that they’re all at knee length might be just about the one thing those shorts have in common. Animal printed (Coach), bright pink (Dsquared), double layered (Balmain), baby blue and 7/8 (Emporio Armani); more is a bore doesn’t apply here. They came in heavy; leather look (and some palmtrees) at Dsquared and suede at Fendi, silky: at Philip Lim and Dolce & Gabbana, sophisticated; Gucci and Jil Sander and ultra casual; Long and Kenzo. Proof that you can go either way with this year’s summer short. Whether office ready or beach bound; any man should be able to smoothly work the short into this season’s wardrobe. And most importantly: have a little fun while he’s at it. Donatella Versace is showing just how that is done, sending out her male models in head to toe lilac looks, shorts worn over trousers. Out of the box, indeed!
P.S. For those who will never give into the man wearing shorts-trend: just drop it. Hermes, Neil Barett, Walter van Beirendock, Haider Ackermann, Valentino, Thom Browne and Saint Laurent skipped shorts all along this season.
P.S.2 For those guys who prefer showing a little more leg we’ve got a trend report on extra short shorts (by the likes of Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Prada) coming up in two weeks.
WOMENSWEAR SS2016: The metallic movement
May 26, 2016 by Eva Dusch

You could think of this as something that belongs to glitzy granny’s in Advanced Style, Lady Gaga or ’10 outfits Only Samantha Jones Can Wear’. But as a matter of fact, shiny gold fabric and metallics are a huge trend (ever since 2014) and seem to make a lasting impression. Although it feels like a throwback to the 80’s, don’t be scared, cause the metallic trend is less space man and over the top than you might think. It’s actually more out of this world. That means: modern, classy and sophisticated. Even sexy.
It’s becoming more and more versatile and it can be as simple as teaming a metallic skirt or trousers with a simple white shirt for a less boring everyday look (looking at you Loewe). Or have a look at Chanel on how to add a metallic shoe, purse or hand glove (how Michael Jackon can it be) to your outfit. Bright metallic accessories is a proper and easy way to add a a little va-va-voom. And literally shine all night with all the girls wearing a sparkly metallic (slip)dress (check check, Saint Laurent). And if, if you dare to take it up another notch, show your wild side with Prada’s golden lips. How sassy! All else there’s left is just a bunch of confidence.
WOMENSWEAR TREND SS2016: Ponytail Plus
Sure, the clothes are very important during fashion week. But no finishing business without the hair. A woman prizes her hair over anything else. It’s like a big cream cake that needs some strawberries to top it off, right? Luckily, the majority of hair and beauty trends are surprisingly easy to pull off (woohoo!), like the upgraded ponytail.
We know the classic ponytail for years and years now. It’s something our mothers loved giving us to dress up with. Nothing new about that. But this season we see many different spins on this golden oldie. Because same shit, different day, it makes you bored out of your mind. The great thing about ponytails is that it’s pretty easy to DIY and still make you look completely different ánd sophisticated. So how to upgrade the usual ponytail? You have several options. According to Oscar de la Renta and Dior, add a classic fabric accessory ASAP. Just a simple ribbon around it can do the trick. Want something more classy and high fashion, opt for Balmain’s high, slick variation. And Marni, Miu Miu, and Chanel only had one important question: why stick to one when you can have two? Bring in the double tails gals! Although it’s a risky look, because it might result in something really girly and youthful, there are enough examples of how to pull it off as an adult. And with the daring make-up looks and likewise attitude, it wasn’t even close to girlish. It was actually le freak c’est chic.
MENSWEAR TREND ss2016: Gettin’ beggy with it
When it comes down to menswear trends you need to know for spring, this one definitely needs to be included. The baggy trouser (or wide-legged pants) was always shining through the mens collections and have been making a slow but definite return on the men’s catwalk for the past few seasons. It’s having its big big breakthrough with a vast majority of designers showing loosened-up silhouettes. And by that we mean not only smaller companies, but the actual big boys. Giorgio Armani, Etro, Fendi, Versace, Yamamoto, Lanvin, Raf Simons and Bally. Not only in casual ensembles, but also in a suiting and shorts. Comfort is playing a major role right now, with the hems becoming lower and wider. Why always in tight and skinny jeans, seems to be the question. In the end, wide-leg pants have always been one of the most important staples in men’s style history. From Russian troops till Sinatra in the 1950s.
It’s like bringing sexy back (thank you Justin), but in a new and different way. We know, take a deep breath, because it may sound scary and it won’t be the most easy and comfortable trend to integrate for a lot of men, but all these baggy trousers are really important for the development and change of men’s style. Make sure it has a high waist so you won’t look overweight or seem to drown in it. And make sure that you wear on top is either cropped or slim, so it balances each other out. It may feel uncertain at first, but wide-legged trousers are more wearable than you can probably imagine.
MENSWEAR TREND SS2016: JUNGLE BOOK
A brand new The Jungle Book movie was released this spring. Reason for fashion brand Kenzo to launch a special collection dedicated to the Disney movie. But it wasn’t just the designers at Kenzo who figured jungle would be an appropriate spring/summer theme. Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Missoni among others all turned their catwalks into a wild nature celebration. Each in their own way of-course. At Balmain, Philip Lim and Kenzo the dresscode was safari chic all the way, with kaki colored overalls as far as our eyes could reach. Antionio Marras gave his camouflage attire a tropical touch and at Missoni the safari jacket was given the ultimate holiday touch. Burberry, Coach and Saint Laurent hinted to the theme more subtly, presenting some animal printed statement pieces. Then there were the models at Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Gucci rocking the brands’ full on flora and fauna suits. Junya Watanabe went all the way with it’s male models wearing big braided wigs, safari hats, patchwork T-shirts, bright printed scarves with beads and fringes, handmade jewellery and wooden accessories, creating a true Junya jungle. Fashion darling Dries van Noten probably interpreted the trend in the chicest way, pairing tropical palmtree printed shorts with leopard sweaters; this summer’s bare necessities. Welcome to the jungle.
