Summer Streetwear Trend 2017: PJ Party

The pajama inspired look just doesn’t seem to get old. After having worked our satin PJ’s in evert major fashion capital we’re slowly moving over to robe dressing. Whether velvet, satin or kimono inspired wearing a robe outdoors is now officially the chicest thing. A trend obviously inspired by the catwalk collections of Haider Ackermann, Lanvin and Burberry. Wear it with some chunky sandals or a good pair of denim jeans to give it that contemporary, urban feel. And of course don’t forget the it-bag, the designer sunnies and that extra cool out of bed hair style. The robe keeps you warm and makes it easy to hide those extra pounds you’d love to shed. Yet another extremely comfy summer trend coming your way. Get up, have breakfast and go!

Summer Streetwear Trend 2017: Side Stripes

Athleisure is all the rage these days. So your wardrobe isn’t complete without a pair of bold trainers, colored hoodies, bomber jackets and statement joggers. Especially the latter have proved to be extremely fashionable and versatile. I mean who would have thought in 2017 you’d be able to attend a meeting in a pair of black and red striped jogging pants? As you can see in our gallery above the styling can make or break the outfit. But the trick is to start thinking of joggers as a neat pair of pleated pants. So mix them up with a deconstructed blouse and some adidas sneakers or pair them with your Gucci (it)-sweater and some good leather loafers. Easy does it and going out was never this comfy.

SS2017 Trend: Harder, Better, Stronger (shoulders)

We admit some of the looks in our gallery above aren’t the most ‘likeable’ at first sight. Yet, you know how it works in fashion, give a trend a month or six and everyone in the fashion scene has completely accepted it. Give it a year (or two) and the mass market is fully embracing it. So right about now, when it comes to the strong shoulder trend, we’re at the first base; fashion professionals have accepted it and are transmitting the message to a wider audience. A few fashion forward influencers have been spotted working those Balenciaga jackets and one shouldered Saint Laurent dresses. They’re the daredevils who don’t care if a trench coat gives them a less feminine figure or a certain Frankenstein appeal. In the name of fashion they’re rocking those XL shoulders as if the eighties never existed. A woman in a suit (Off white, Céline) never looked this strong and disco dancing dressing (Saint Laurent) was never this fierce and outspoken. The silhouette’s focus point is moving up! From waist to shoulders. Are you ready to step up your shoulder game? Harder, better, faster!

SS2017 Trend: (Patent) Pink Party

When Valentino red turn pink you know something’s up. Bright pink is becoming the #1 color for this summer. And we can not think of a reason not to join this pink party. From Balenciaga to Vetements; the most fashion forward looks in bright pink are making headlights on the streets, in the fashion magazines and, of course, on Instagram. And might you think bright pink is daring enough, think again. Bright patent pink (as seen at Bottega Veneta) is even a better option. Not to mention the satin pink spotted at Ralph Lauren. And let’s not forget the red/pink combination both Sportmax and Valentino introduced. The in between shade of raspberry red spotted at Kenzo, Hermes and Michael Kors might be your best bet. The ultimate summer shade that works beautifully combined with mint green (just look at one of the Céline runway looks). Show some color, give them something to talk about and make it a (sweet) summer to remember!

The Kingpins Show Amsterdam SS2018

The trade show acquired cult like status amongst denim professionals over the years. Kingpins grew into a platform a with biannual editions in New York and Hong Kong. Kingpins is part of Amsterdam Denim Days.

SS2017 Trend: Pleated, Folded & Draped

Ruffles are dominating this year’s summer look, no doubt about it. They’re everywhere, on blouses, T-shirts, sweaters, skirts and even ruffled pants are making their way onto the streets. It seems like there’s no denying this trend. Yet for those who like things a little less romantic we’ve got some back-up options. In stead of ruffles you can also opt for pleats as origami-inspired pieces are quite the statement makers too. So how about a pleated skirt (as seen at Vionnet, Off White and Victoria Beckham)? Or would you prefer them on your top (as Jil Sander and Marni introduced)? And how about a little drape effect (shown by Sportmax and Loewe)? A perfect classic/dramatic detail to make your outfit just a little more interesting. And the ultimate excuse to leave your iron in your closet. Pleats please! 1,2,3, origami!

SS2017 Trend: Underwear = Outerwear (again)

Why don’t you.. turn your outfit inside out? Wearing your underwear as outerwear is (once again) the coolest game changer. Wear your bras and bralettes over  your blouses and dresses and you’re right on trend. Or rather, leave the house in nothing more than a sheer body, a transparent slipdress or a triangle bra (midriff on display). Probably the easiest way to make a statement this summer. At least, that’s how Victoria Beckham, Céline, Alberta Ferretti and Alexander Wang feel about it. Not to mention Dries van Noten, Miu Miu and Giambattista Valli’s version of this daring trend. So, are you ready to show some skin or even #freethatnipple? Oeh la la.. lingerie!

SS2017 Trend: Fringe Party

Where hippies and Western influences meet, that’s where the fringe party is at. The party of the season, with a line up of big names, from Ralph Lauren to Hermes. And who knew this dresscode could be so diverse. From cool and grungy at Coach to line dance fabulous at Rodarte. Adding some fringes to your look don’t necessarily turn you into a cowgirl (although that Ralph Lauren hat might add to the effect). Just play around with it and use it as an extra asset to your fashion forward look. Like Miuccia Prada did in her SS2017 collection. Her fringe meets fur details gave her looks some extra elegancy and a bit more of a fun factor, whilst staying classy, modern and yet retro inspired. Not feeling the fringe shoulders or hemlines? Just opt for that cute little fringe bag Hermes designed for spring/summer. A subtle yet stunning way to join in on the fringe fun.

SS2017 Trend: Good Sport

In line with our previously discussed trend (hoodies) we’d like to focus on a major catwalk trend that is very much related: sportswear inspired ensembles. Now, of course we’ve seen sportswear influences come and go for years. Yet, the sportive touch hasn’t been this present for years. It might have started with sneakers becoming extremely mainstream (and becoming more rule than  exception), but now sportswear inspired items, athleisure if you will, and details like hoodies, jogging pants, branded straps and bands, parkas, large zippers, mesh fabrics, caps (a big streetwear thing at the moment) and cycling pants are taking over. And it’s not just all American sportswear brands like Lacoste and Tommy Hilfiger who are focusing on activewear, DKNY, Prada and Versace are being good sports too this season. Not to mention old school brands like Fila, Champion and Kappa all making a major comeback (thank you Vetements). Now you don’t even have to stress about working up a sweat in these looks. You can easily rock a mesh cropped top during a late lunch with your friends and simply forget all about your soul cycling class. Besides, you wouldn’t want any sweat stains on your Carven top, now would you?

SS2017 Trend: Hoodies (one more time)

We know, we’ve discussed this trend before. Last November to be precise. And we’re sorry for the overlap, but it seems the hoodie hype isn’t going anywhere any time soon. Both streets and sidewalks were filled with hoodies for the upcoming season. There not a high street label that isn’t selling hoodies (in multiple colors) like crazy and even many of the high end labels (trendsetters Balenciaga and Vetements among others) are weighing in on the trend. And why shouldn’t we celebrate this fashion item’s popularity a little longer. After all the hoodie is one of the most comfortable and versatile items of the moment. Wear it underneath your patent leather coat or pair it with a sporty bomber. Tuck it into your jeans and add some kitten heels or ditch legging and denim all together wearing your oversized hoodie as a dress. Sporty chic seems to be the dresscode, so get your hoodie act together, before the next it item comes along.
