Borrowing from and interpreting menswear seems a theme in the fall-season in New York. But, as a trend watcher earlier this year told us, the men’s jacket is the new dress for the coming five years.
Diane von Furstenberg always wanted to live a man’s life in a woman’s body, at least that’s what she confessed in her show-notes. So it was no surprise men’s suits played a main part in the collection. She cropped the pants, mixed the gray felted wool with chiffon rosettes and a corduroy jacket with a ruffled minidress.
It was the old game of playing soft against hard. Luckily there were also a lot of dresses to choose from, from simple lbd’s to tunic dresses.

Tonight we saw what Mattijs was all about. His fashion show contained some qualitative, wearable fashion items.
Just as in his latest collection he presented a lot of pleated designs, like a black and a red pleated dress combined with golden belts and bracelets. Other eye-catching details were ruffles and frayed ends with long threads hanging at the bottom of some dresses.
We saw a fur balloon-shaped skirt and tops with puffy sleeves. The models wore snake leather shoes.
Mattijs used crazy color combinations like turquoise with pink. And again we saw a lot of metallic and shiny fabrics.

For his new ss 2010 collection Claes Iversen found inspiration in surreal elements and the work of Rene Magritte. Classic menswear represents the hard, businesslike reality that’s a contrast towards the ever changing feminine forms. The Post-It-form is like Magritte’s apples, fishes and pipes – you’ll find it throughout the collection as a graphic element or as a symbol of connecting different techniques.
LEW Catwalk Fashion Show SS10
Kim Leemans and Merel Wicker met in 2001 at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and have been cooperating ever since then. In 2007 they decided to start their own label, LEW. The duo knows how to translate a concept into wearable clothes. They use eyecathing techniques, fresh mature colors and graphic shapes which create a refreshing and powerful image. Their ss2010 collection refers to the vibrant, continuous changing period that lies behind them.
