Stella McCartney Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2011

The Stella McCartney show, held in the beautiful Opéra Garnier, didn’t pass unnoticed. With her father Paul McCartney turning up, as well as actrice Salma Hayek, Liv Tyler and singer Beth Ditto it caused quite a stir. Paparazzi and street photogs were fighting for the best shot in front of the theater and inside all camera’s were pointed at them.
Yet celebs maybe assure being mentioned in the press, the clothes of course have to tell the right story. And today they did. Stella, who dedicated the show to her family, friends and fantastic team, first sent out several fresh pastel looks. The silhouettes were masculine, yet the colors (rose pistachio, fresh bergamot, lavender, wilde blue and yellow sorbet) made it soft again.
Stella’s trousers were highwaisted and cropped, her jackets were straight cut and had cigarette sleeves. They were paired with buttoned up polos.
Halfway the collection Stella showed some oversized denim outfits with a clean cut. Right after that long silk gowns with very high slits followed each other. Though they were pretty revealing they stayed elegant.
The show ended with a splash of citrus. Gorgeous colored citrus fruit prints covered dresses, skirts, collars and jackets. They looked like the perfect alternative for the often used floral print. Plus fruit prints might become a hit next summer. Prada and Moschino cheap and chic both already showed fruit prints (bananas and lemons, respectively) in their collection.

Suddenly clean, minimal fashion is a hit. It started with Jil Sander and Raf Simons, then Phoebe Philo at Celine and now Stella McCartney got caught by it too. Gone are her sexy, flirtatious clothes with a classic touch, her fall/wintershow opened with a sleek gray cashmere coat just above the knee, worn with bare legs and slingbacks. Second outfit was a camel/blue tunic with oversized stripes worn with slacks.
Gray, black, blue and camel were the main colors of the collection, with orange and fuchsia as shocking contrast. Graphic illusions were created with floating sleeves and geometric wool appliques on organza dresses. Cosy and comfortable were oversized cardigans in fishermen’s rib and a wrap coat in structural wool. Great basics were the stretch stirrup trousers, their slim silhouette paired effortlessly with the knitwear and tunics.
The eveningwear looked more glamorous with the draped backs and flesh revealing slits. The dresses had long train extensions.
The show was dedicated to her family, kids and team, but also to Lee – Alexander- McQueen. ‘You’re missed’, Stella wrote in a personal note.
Catwalktrends ss2010: really tiny bags

Tiny bags definitely seem to be a trend on the runway. Yet they are very unpractical, because there aren’t many items that will fit in these bags.
But can we still call it a bag? Most versions we saw on the runway looked more like extraordinarily shaped purses, if you ask us.
The bags may be unpractical, yet they created some funny looks on the catwalk. Extremely tiny were the bags in the Anteprima, Blugirl, Bottega Veneta, Etro, DSquared, Fendi and Moschino fashion show. .
Most original were the Fendi bag with spikes, the pink bag form Gianfranco Ferré, the wooden ‘bag frame’ from Stella McCartney and the silk heart shaped bag from Moschino.
Unfortunately you’d have to keep most of these tiny bags in your hand all evening, but do they look cute!

Trey Speegle’s giant paint-by-number canvas spelling out the word YES at the back of Stella McCartney’s runway summed up the mood of her collection quite succinctly. These were uncomplicated, upbeat, and above all colorful clothes for women who prefer not to think too hard about getting dressed but still want to look young, sexy, and chic. It’s a sentiment that McCartney, a mother of three young children and the head of a growing fashion empire, understands intimately—as do her loyal customers, including front-row pal Gwyneth Paltrow.
Trends ss2010: new basics
You could consider a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt as everlasting basics. However, even basics change a little bit every year.
A few seasons ago some slim fit pants were indispensable. For next summer a pair of wide-legged beige pants, a straightforward skirt, a loose-fitting jacket and a long cardigan are the season’s must haves. We saw many of these items at Stella McCartney’s show.
What’s so great about these clothes? You can easily mix them with the rest of your wardrobe. Especially the beige pants can go well with almost every color. The jackets and cardigans can be worn in a masculine way but with a waistbelt they will look very ladylike. We could see this combination in many shows.
The MaxMara, Chloé and Tommy Hilfiger fashion shows all had some great basics with which you can make endless variations.

Finally after so many days of (sometimes boring) fashionshows with angry looking models there were real smiles on the runway. Stella McCartney was in a good mood – maybe because 2008 turned out to be a good year regarding 20 percent profit – and her message was: embrace life and be happy. Her collection was alike: real clothes for real women but with a little bit of glamor to make it through the day. Relaxed denim skirts just below the knee and male trousers mixed with lace tops and masculine jackets referred to the seventies , although the gender blending was very now. High heels, but also comfy Linda-wedges – a tribute to her late mother Linda McCartney – gave the look an extra edge as did the colors and shiny/matte shantung. McCartneys evening-wear is flowing and moving like a colorful jellyfish, for those late parties at the beach or downtown. Watch her best friend Gwyneth Paltrow, she’ll be probably the first.
