Prada Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010

The Prada ss2010 collection was one of those collections with a deeper message, but I could not figure it out immediately. Something old, something new, a bit of vintage fifties Miami and clean, modern shapes, artificial meets today’s reality. There was a hint of sportswear with the bikershorts, wide (halter) tops and transparant bags and shoes. Prints were stunning: projections of beachlife, chandeliers and flowerprints in black and white, greytones and pastels. It was more about the message and concept, than wearability.
D&G Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010
Yiepieyaheeee! D&G ss2010 collection was all about prairie-girls and saloon-ladies. Good old John Wayne would have been jealous at the dirty jeans, western-shirts and pretty neat suits and he would have loved to see his girlfriend Jane in a lace-shirt, fringed boots and ultra-short leather skirt. This was a very commercial collection, but – he- whats wrong with that? It will probably sell as hell and put copycats in the overdrive. Soon in a shop near you…
Giorgio Armani Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010

It look like Giorgio Armani (75) recovered well from his illness. The Italian designer suffered from hepatitis last year and had to take some time of. The collection was well balanced with strong items like softshiny Armani-jackets at loose pants and short dresses and happy skirts with structured tops. Colors were both bold and sober, with a focus at black, blue and green and flashes of pink and red.

Dutch designer Iris van Herpen took her ss 2010 collection to London and created a serious buzz. The ten creations of ‘Radiation Invasion’ were all made by hand and luxury departments store Harrods announced an exhibition of her work. Vogue, Dazed & Confused and Vanity Fair were all speechless. Some even said it was the most beautiful show of all London Fashion Week. We can only say: we regret we were not there and we are very very proud of Iris. You go girl!

Ralph Lauren Catwalk Fashion Show SS10

The Great Recession we’re all living through got Ralph Lauren thinking about the American power to deal with problems. He was inspired by the character of the worker, the farmer, the cowboy, the pioneer women of the prairies. Models in newsboy caps wore faded and torn oversized jeans with blue work shirts, patchwork overalls, and nightshirts in stripes, or sweet flowerprint dresses with white ankle socks and heels. It was cinematic, like most of Lauren’s collections. And it goes without saying that his vision is a romanticized one.
