Dolce & Gabbana Catwalk Fashion Show Milan ss2012

The Italian kitchen with all its colors and the traditional way Italians celebrate festivities was the inspiration for Dolce & Gabbana’s spring summer 2012 collection. The designers imagined themselves a small town in the South of Italy, decorated for festivities. The whole show and stage recalled the typically Italian joyful spirit: from the distinctive illuminations that adorn every street and the fragrances and tastes of Mediterranean food, down to the crochet that embellishes tablecloths.

Tomatoes, aubergine, courgette, onions and hot pepper prints brightened up the classic sheath dresses or dresses cut at the waist and ruched, tops, shorts and deconstructed jackets. All clothes were made in organza or cotton, mixed with crochet in pastel colours such as light blue, peach, beige and nude.
The sensuality of the Italian culinary culture and of the traditions are also expressed in the accessories made of pasta and little tomatoes, onions and small Madonnas that decorate shoulder bags, earrings, necklaces and bracelets. On the other hand, bags and shoes are made of that typical intertwined plastic that recalls the chairs one can find at the bars.
At night the black brocade dresses and jackets are covered with shiny stones of the same colour, while the sparkling geometries of the illuminations that decorate the streets are recreated through embroideries made of multi-coloured crystals on lace dresses.

Marni Catwalk Fashion Show Milan ss2012

Modern elegance, that is the Marni spring 2012 collection  in two words. Beautiful in it’s simplicity and silhouette, upbeat in it’s color-palette and modern where it comes to print and fabrics. The elegant dresses, just nip-tucked  in the waist, in sorbet-colors where mouth watering, as were the deux pieces. The see through nude-colored skirts that peeped out under the skirts added a sensual touch.

The show started in plain colors, followed by flowerprints in pastels, shades of brown and yellow and multicolored. There was a lightly ethnic vibe in a silver/brown/black print for dresses at the end of the show. But again, this Marni-collection proved that classics can look modern and almost futuristic by the use of high tech fabrics and still be wearable at the same time.

Moschino Cheap and Chic Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2012

For it’s Cheap & Chic collection fashion house Moschino chose vegetables and fruit as it’s inspiration. It was used throughout the whole collection, pretty literal. It started with the invitation, which had actual plating seeds in it. Then there were fruit ‘n veg stalls at the show as a backdrop. The soundtrack contained a song called Strawberry fields and of course there were the clothes…

The show opened with a – again pretty literal – strawberry dress, followed by some apple printed looks. We saw grapes and carrots too, as well as some amazing floral prints. It was a bit of everything related to fruit & vegetables actually.

Of course the accessories matched the subject. Models wore John Lennon glasses, straw hats and bows made of straw were attached to some of the looks. Even a carrot hat piece appeared at some point.

The puffy dresses were girly and fun, yet it were the maxi dresses which made the most impact. The looks were fun and bubbly, but not jaw-dropping. Perhaps Moschino should have focused a little less on the fruit prints, although we kinda loved the healthy vibe we got from this show.

Emilio Pucci Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2012

Girls, you better start working on your abs ‘cause the cropped tops trend is here to stay. After having seen it at Prada, Versace and Preen, it was a big hit at Emilio Pucci today too. Gypsy looking girls wore them with patchwork maxi skirts and lots of jewelry. With lace fabric on the front they were a bit on the edgy side, but the real Pucci girls will definitely find a way to work with that.

The rest of the collection was kinda risqué too with lots of sheer and lace parts. Like the red and pink printed sheer dress, which left nothing to the imagination. Or the black mesh tunic worn by Melissa Tammerijn, which gave everything away. Not to mention the revealing black lace skirt and cropped top, which Gwyneth Paltrow was able to pull off on the red carpet earlier this week.

Yet despite the collection being pretty raunchy; the clothes looked beautiful. Especially the pastel colored prints Dundas used on several floor-sweeping designs were to die for. And after we’ve created our very own six pack we sure will be able to come up with some good underwear solutions for those incredible see-through pieces of Pucci.

This was good old Cavalli-stuff: smoky-eyed models in low skinny pants and sheer tops, animal prints and leather jackets. The Just Cavalli-collection was sexy and young, bohemian and rock ‘n roll. Just what his younger clientele wants.

Jil Sander Catwalk Fashion Show Milan ss2012

And again, Raf Simons left the audience at Jil Sander breathless, this time after presenting his spring 2012 collection. It was minimalist indeed, with the white cotton shirt as the centerpiece and starting point of the collection. Pure and simple. Other elements of the collection was marriage and women at beauty salons. The silhouette was gracefoul and lean, with mid-calf skirts and sleeveless tops. The show opened and closed with white dreses, the first strict and elegant with a sensual undertone, the last romantic and clean. In between there were suits and skirts and jackets and tops in paisley-print and gingham, sometimes with a transparant layer. Knitwear was based on Picasso’s ceramics.

Overall the collection had a cinematic feel and a Fifties vibe.

Sportmax Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2012

Sportmax was shiny en shimmery but never in a too trashy or too girly way. The collection kept it’s cool through the printed tops and bottom full of studs, the shiny/sheer blouses and the holographic sweaters and suits.

The models looked easy chic as they strutted the catwalk to some very loud beats. They were confident; hands in their shorts’ pockets, messy hair, comfortable clothes. And what girl wouldn’t be? The camel/silver trench, the masculine navy suit, the holographic sweater and the final sequined 80s dress were to die for. They’re sure to be seen on many outfitblogs of international bloggers and after that it’s only a matter of time before those pieces are a big hit on the streets as well.

Emporio Armani Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2012

While most brands are celebrating summer with bright colors, floral and graphic prints Emporio Armani kept his collection clean and sober. Hardly any color, barely any joyful print at sight. He just presented a series of classic-looking black and white ensembles.

Black pieces got white lining and vice versa. Dresses felt like a mix between twenties and sixties, jackets were perfectly cut. All looks were completely accessorized by black & white boaters, corsages, see through collars, blond wigs and dark eyes. Nice little extras which the collection really needed. ‘Cause due to the lack of color it sometimes was hard to tell the differences between two looks and it sometimes felt like a little bit too much of the same thing.

Nevertheless there were some very good classic pieces, which the Emporio Armani woman can wear over and over again. Items that will stay fashionable and, thanks to the classic colors, she won’t get bored with very easily.

Versace Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2012

With Donatella Versace being the next designer to collaborate with H&M all eyes are at this glamorous Italian house again. Let’s hope we’ll see some of the sexy, glossy style she presented for spring 2012. For sure we’ll see prints, studs, black leather and color plus short dresses and glamorous partywear. Did the menswear-collection breathed 80’s Versace with it’s bold foulard-prints, for womenswear Donatella kept it less loud.

White leather dresses were held on by snakes of studded leather and had bold zips up the back. They also came in lilac and sky blue in a neoprene fabric that featured a print of sea-horses, starfish and shells. There were also bloomer-shapes shorts with bra-tops and bomber-jackets. Besides the short, curvy dresses  flirty chiffon-dresses appeared and a series of dresses in black leather. Of course the show ended with a whole range of full length gowns in rainbow colors.

Trussardi Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2012

The spring/summer Trussardi collection was one of the first designed by brand’s new creative director Umit Benan. And for a newcomer, who has more experience in menswear, it was a good start.

Looks were clean, wearable and – indeed – somewhat menswear inspired. Oversized jackets were worn with pleated trousers, men’s shirts were mixed with high wasted pants and unisex items like jumpsuits, trench coats and tunic dresses were presented on the runway.

But even though a lot of the designs could’ve come straight out of a man’s closet, the models never looked too boxy/masculine. That is, thanks to the waist belts, elegant sandals and beautiful leather bags.

Every look seemed perfect according to today’s trends. There weren’t any surprises, but you could tell every piece of clothing was beautifully made. Kudos for Benan, he’s off to a good start!
