Dsquared Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010

The invitation for the Dsquared SS2010 fashion show on a piece of wood already gave the theme away. Like the menswear collection of this year it was all about camping. With untidy braids the girls looked as if they’d just got out of bed, put on their caps and glasses and were on their way to the campsite toiletbuilding. They wore boots with colorful socks sticking out. There were funny camp-related details like large ants, colorful birds and plasters. Other repetitive parts of the show were black flowers and silver spikes. Materials like silk, cotton and nylon were used. Some army and Scottish tartan prints appeared. Of course Dean and Dan designed some jeans, but apart from their bright yellow color, these were not that special. Some waterproof coats, dresses and backpacks came by. The ultimate camping-pants were formed by an orange multifunctional piece with countless pockets. Overall the show was a messy camping spectacle. Thanks to the theme it was fun to watch, but the clothes were not very renewing.(Tess van Daelen)
Etro Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010

At Etro’s ss 2010 fashion-show Veronica Etro proved to be on top of her game with a soft and feminine collection. Dresses were alternated with suits, all in light shades of grey, orange, brown and lilac. The dresses had wide, pleated and airy collars and layering. There was a lot of Etro’s paisley print in these dresses, but there were also flower- and feather-prints. Models with big frizzy hair wore even bigger belts, tied together by laces. Oversized suits showed loose-fitting pants and jackets with tucked-up sleeves. In the breast pockets of those jackets a subtle piece of handkerchief was visible. The flowers at one specific jacket looked as if they were real. The whole collection seemed a little inspired by American Indians. This idea was fed by the use of feather-prints, lots of laces, long earrings and necklaces with tassels, upper-arm jewelry and shades of brown and beige. (Tess van Daelen)
Missoni Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010

At the Missoni SS2010 fashionshow pale models walked the runway in clothes that had as little color as their skins. The hair was high at the front and lead into fishtail braids at the back. Angela Missoni designed many long dresses in which the models looked even longer and slimmer than they usually do. She used a lot of layering. It was hard to distinguish one piece of clothing from the other because of the use of very similar shades. Knitted tops and long cardigans were worn over dresses. Sometimes a top or just a piece of fabric was tied around the model’s waist. Exactly two trousers were shown. The models all wore a silver piece of jewelry around their upper-arm (even if they wore clothes under it). They also had extremely long necklaces wrapped around their necks several times. With little color and the Missoni pattern barely being used this collection showed a whole new side of the Varesion brand. (Tess van Daelen)

Love, passion and Spain inspired Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana to create a summer-collection full of lace, fringes, roses and leopard-prints. Red, black and white played a main part in the collection, together with slim dresses and knee-length skirts with jackets, short, sexy corset-dresses, puffy miniskirts and matador-suits. The theme also led to that good old vintage underwear we know already from Dolce & Gabbana. It fitted perfectly underneath the see through lace and netfabrics. The atmosphere reminded a little bit of Jean Paul Gaultiers autumnshow, but the result was absolutely 100 % Dolce & Gabbana.

Rosella Jardini opened her SS2010 show for Moschino with a short version of a Chanel-looking suit. This outfit was combined with black tights, golden shoes and earrings. The look was completed with a scarf on top of the model’s head, some bangles and a bag, all in the shape of a heart. With this first look the fashion was set for a diverse and mixed collection. There were puffy dresses and skirts with prints of hearts, flowers and cherries. A jacket was made of golden chains, held together by a black leather body. One model showed a black dress on which the lines of a surreal coat were stitched in white. There were some playful coats with bows and layering. The models wore gold accessories like belts decorated with tassels or necklaces with deep red cherries. To the end the clothes became even more mixed when prints were combined in several patchwork looks. Mix ‘n Match at Moshino… (Tess van Daelen)

Marni ss2010 is all about a soft and fluid silhouette in sun-bleached colors (pink, yellow, blue, white, gold) with a vintage 20’s feeling. T-shirts, chemisiers, blouses, tunics, skirts and dresses were layered, tied together with ribbons or belts and often worn with black&white striped leggings or kneelength bikershorts. Very laidback and relaxed but with enough elegance to wear it to the office. No necklaces, but wouden bangles, antique earclips and a silk scarf wrapped around the head. Large flowerprints were mixed with stripes, dots or checks, combinations of materials (silk & cotton, linen & paper, organza & suede) gave it all a sense of modernity, the unexpected and a touch of the recherché.

Gucci ss2010 looks like a real Gucci collection: bold patterns, tight fitted dresses, a good balance between tacky, sporty and sophisticated and with a lot of commercial power. It was as if Barbarella met with Tomb Raider. Dresses with cutouts and silver ornaments, lace-up and inserts of net-fabrics were all over, but also that typical Gucci miniskirt and leather motor jacket. Large Ikat-prints gave dresses and tops a more elegant feel, espacially mixed with black.

Since Giorgio Armani told WWD in an interview he suffered from hepatitis, you look different at the 75 year old designer. We’d better enjoy his skills as one of the greatest fashion designers of the last 30 years now we can than keep on complaining about his long shows and sometimes awkward collections. His heritage was and is still amazing. His talent as a designer was visible in the collection he showed today full of pretty young things in short, swirly skirts, short tailored jackets and dresses. It started with black, grey and neutrals but exploded in bright colors at the end. I immediately fell in love with the heels and bags.
