Roberto Cavalli Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010

The collection of Roberto Cavalli didn’t send out a clear message. Skinny, perforated leather pants, shirts without sleeves, jackets, leopard prints  and pastelshades. It reminded us of heavymetal bands and rockstars.

Neil Barrett Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010

Neil Barrett named his collection ‘Artisan Bonding’. Hmm. It didn’t ring a bell immediately, but it probably referred to the leathers and jersey knits which were bonded together to create seamless pieces. The collection itself echoed the Indian military with elongated jackets and ‘Bombay-pants, Barretts love of formal men’s dressing gave it a more elegant touch and this avoided a more gimmicky look.

Vivienne Westwood Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010

A show of Vivienne Westwood is always like a little party: you know she’ll send out sexy hunks in funny clothes with some kind of message. This time the models looked scary with their Joker-smile and Zorro-masks. The collection was a  little predictable: printed shirts, full trousers, colorful sportswear and a gimmick now and then.

John Richmond showed a streetwise collection: easygoing, simple and colorful. All kinds of red seem to be the color of the season in Milan. Richmond used a more faded version which blended nice with the greys and blues.

Gucci Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010

I personally liked the slim white suits at Gucci, especially with those black& white patterned shirts. It gives men a certain old fashioned flair, especially when they have that boyish haircut! But we’ve seen this before at Gucci, with different accessoiries and in a different setting. New was the focus at sportswear – more labels are turning to that ( what else can you do when you’re out of work? you go hiking, diving, swimming, climbing – ahum), there were motorjackets, anoraks and divinggear. The evenings are for shiny suits in midnight blue. But what were those knits doing there?

Trussardi 1911 Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010

Milan Vukmirovic is the one who has to revive the Trussardi 1911 menswear-label. And he succeeded indeed, although he took the easiest way by giving  formalwear a cool twist and play with proportions and color. By the way: denim is defenitively back in vogue, the Trussardi-jeans is studded and colored with flames.

Giorgio Armani Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010

Giorgio Armani is at his best when times are rough. He just does where he’s good at: making good suits with that typical Armani twist. Graphic patterns in black and white, a relaxed mix of formal and informal,  neutral colors, twotone shoes and snakeskin sneakers. When the company is going  bankrupt, at least you can leave in style.

Graduationshows 2009, #2 Rotterdam

The location for the graduationshow of Willem de Kooning Academy was typical Rotterdam: the Schiecentrale in trendy Lloyd-district. Raw, industrial, full of energy. The collections also represented that atmosphere, with focus on construction, shape and neutral colors.

Bas Kosters: Freedom Collection

There was something new about Bas Kosters’ womenswear-collection for 2010. The dresses, pants and coats he showed yesterday at Paradiso in Amsterdam seemed more refined, happier and free. His previous collections always had a hint of anger, protest and cartoons, but somehow Bas took a few steps forward now. What he showed yesterday was wearable, beautiful in his own way and colorful. It made us laugh, feel happy and reminded us of our careless childhood-moments. The colors! That glitter! The clogs! The signature Kosters-prints! It felt like a serious ready to wear-collection. And he really made us forget that nasty crisis.
