Different is beautiful if you ask Oilily. On Sunday night the Dutch fashion brand presented it’s fall/winter collection for next year, inspired by ethnic diversity. Diverse cultures, habits and preferences were translated into a bright colored feel good show. The upbeat collection was divided into three themes, a fresh take on the seventies, sportive luxury and a beautifully colored (in greens, reds and blues) selection. Each look worn with an optimistic and comfortable vibe. From the rainbow-colored co-ord to the Kimono inspired, belted and floral printed dress. Oilily might already be around for a while, there were lots of surprises throughout the collection. Color clashes (red and pink in the mix), material mixes (mohair and jacquard in one look), style clashes (a graphic printed woolen coat over a floral baby doll dress) and styling novelties (pleated pants, suspenders and chunky scarfs). Different and beautiful. And then there was a finally in which three drummers jammed along with DJ’s Sander Stenger and Joost van Bellen. A definite joyful experience, that had us all leaving with a smile and a note to ourselves to start wearing more color.
Little girls grow up. Not a woman in the audience that didn’t grow up with Oilily. The Dutch fashion brand, founded in 1963, is extremely well known in the Netherlands. Still the brand felt like it had to revive itself. During tonight’s closing night of Amsterdam Fashion Week Oilily presented it’s new me. They chose to show at the Transformatorhuis, no big commercial show. The collection was started by women who in the eighties and nineties grew up with the brand. They were given the title Friends of the Brand. Cheerful models paraded around in the colorful new spring/summer collection. A collection divided into three different mini-collections to fit women with different personalities. Clothes that put a smile on everyone’s faces, yet turned out a little less bright and busy printed than we’re used to from Oilily. Relaxed silhouettes, large floral and ethnic prints, eyecatching accessories. Elegant designs with a sportive touch. Richly colored and expressively printed, but in a way that felt fit for today’s modern woman. After singer Fay performed in between the models walking the finale it was time for champagne at the front row. Let’s hope Dutch women will embrace Oilily like never before. Judging from the first reactions the brand’s comeback has successfully started.
Oilily – Dutch style Oilily stays true to its Dutch roots, with longforgotten prints and graphics. But it also mixed foreign influences into the collection. Besides modern classics there were jeans and sportswear, which gave an upbeat touch to the collection.
Our own fashiondictionary Real Highlander There are only a few. Famous ones are Sonia Rykiel, Karl Lagerfeld, Giorgio Armani and Vivienne Westwood. They're around for at least 75 years and have designed over 750 different collections. The rumour goes they survive by sucking blood of male virgins to revitalize in between seasons.
