Louis Vuitton Menswear Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2013

Kim Jones’ love for nature sure was visible in his latest fall/winter collection. He opened the show with two light leapord printed jackets and the nature inspired creations kept on coming. Fur XL collars were followed by fur coats as even a burgundy sweater with the image of a snow leopard (remember last season’s big printed sweater trend?) came by. Winter coats looked super cosy, especially combined with LV’s new type of (nightcap) beanie. The checked suits and stripes coats already breathed luxury, but the finale possibly took the collection to a higher level. With satin, bathrobe style, printed, eastern inspired jackets for those real special occasions.

Viktor & Rolf Monsieur Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2013

Sporting the designer’s iconic strong glasses the Viktor & Rolf appeared from yet another Piet Paris designed backdrop. Inspired by one of Jules Verne’s stories they wore skinny suits and heavy outerwear. The fall winter color palette (of greys & blacks) might have been a little somber; the playful prints definitely made up for that. Large letters, large glasses, large shoes and the graphic guy from the backdrop popped up on sweaters, jackets, pants and even one of the bags. Whether the V&R guy is opting for sporty or chic; he’ll have lots of wearable designs to choose from come fall.

Rick Owens Menswear Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2013

All the right ingredients for the perfect Rick Owens cake were in the mix today. His signature black and white color palette, his sleeveless tops, the use of leather, the belted jackets and the long tops. But we were surprised too. By the models big hair to begin with, not to mention their snow proof Ugg like boots. Those tank tops will need a few extra layers, yet the big collars, the hoodies and the oversized gloves will keep the toned Rick Owens man warm all throughout next winter.

Valentino Menswear Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2013

At Valentino we were surprised by a perfect mix of British style and Italian craftmanship. Suits, with houndstooth and Tartan checks, were given a modern touch by pieces of leather and a tight fit. Models looked their best in fashionable pieces like a checked cape, a camel coat with fur detailing and a sportive army printed parka. Next to the perfectly cut leather jackets, the slick pleated pants and business chic loafers, colored classes and casual briefcases all breathed modern luxury.

Walter van Beirendonck Menswear Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2013

We’e not sure how the male models felt afterwards, but the van Beirendonck show sure put us in a good mood. The Belgium designer showed some pretty street chic on trend quilted pants, followed by black leather, busy printed, XXL and argyle ones. And it was not just those pants that made us smile. Walter created suit jackets, vests and knitted sweater in the same style. All very colorful with a shiny disco twist. Checked bathrobe like coats got metallic fringes as extra eye catchers; the same kind of colored metallic that was used for the shoes, mouth and earpieces. A theatrical collection like you could expect from a Opéra Garnier costume designer.

Mugler Menswear Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2013

Future meets wintersport; at Mugler tough looking men wearing full on winter gear introduced us to next year’s fashion. Their black and army green looks mixed with leather gloves seemed like obvious futuristic ensembles. While neon pink, bright blue and green neoprene bodysuits with strong shoulders felt right for any kind of snowy destination. If those pants were just a little less shiny, those army jackets got more tailored and those models looked slightly less robot-like we could totally see these designs doing well next fall.

Carven Menswear Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2013

Standing fully dressed in a sober decorated office Carven’s guys seemed ready for work. Yet their workspace might have had a classic look and feel, the clothes were classic with a twist. Pleated pants were too short (just over the knee) revealing the models socks. Suit jackets were duo colored and colorful knitwear patterns were introduced. Models wore crazy knitted headgear and we wouldn’t describe the two printed camouflage coats as classic either. It looked like fun though. Most of the designs looked classy (not classic). And it might take a while before working men will strut around the office in those turquoise 5/6 pants, but the again there’s always casual Fridays. A fine debut collection for Guillaume Henry; changing men’s wardrobes step by step.

Raf Simons Menswear Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2013

Not distracted by his new job at Dior, Raf stayed true to his personal signature today by presenting an edgy yet playful selection of menswear looks. Sporting some crazy anime styled hair Simons’ men pulled off outspoken pieces like shiny satin pants, fully pattern vests and bright colored blouses with extremely pointy and askew (like the ones at Prada) collars. All the layering of the designs made the looks even more interesting. Turtle necks were worn with blouses, vests or sweaters, followed by suit jackets with horizontal bands in the front. Lots to like. And guess what? This season’s stripes are a Simons trend for next year too.

Dsquared Menswear Catwalk Fashion Show Milan FW2013

While most labels hire more and more asian models, Dean and Dan only sent all black models down their Milan runway. They wore casual ready to wear designs and were given a geek-y touch by high hats and nerdy glasses.

The show’s setting took us back to the twenties Jazz Age (there was even a small strip performance going on in the backdrop), but the clothes looked modern and youthful. Drop crotch Jeans with rolled up legs were matched with white shirts and styled off in many different ways. Combined with knitted sweaters, checked waistcoats, shiny tuxedo jackets and always finished with a bow tie or a tie in a fun color or print.

To make sure it all wouldn’t feel to gimmick-y the designers took (quite) a few steps back for the finale. Over thirty men dressed in neutral shaded underwear, a pretty sight to end this Milan Fashion Week with.

Fendi Menswear Catwalk Fashion Show Milan FW2013

The Fendi men won’t get cold, that’s for sure. Hidden from under high collars, hoodies and the thickest fur they are prepared for the worst possible weather. Fur UGG-like boots to strut to the snow and a waist bag so any emergency items are within close reach. The Fendi man will look cosy on the couch in his comfy knitwear. He will appear swell in his checked grey suit. As he’ll be a true trendsetter with his navy shaded cape on. But God forbid he’ll turn up as that black hairy monster on his first date or any appointment for that matter.
