Calvin Klein Catwalk Fashion Show Milan Menswear SS2014
Multiple shades of blue- from morning sky pale to Yves Klein intense – dominated the spring collection of Calvin Klein. It was graphic, athletic and slyly streetwise. There were color-blocked bombers and bonded wool trousers, or workers in stiff shirt jackets with silver snap fasteners looked futuristic. Interesting were the series of photo-printed T-shirts and sweatshirts depicting salt flats and seascapes at mid-day, sunset and under the stars.

Ferragamo Catwalk Fashion Show Milan Menswear SS2014
Sport inspiration is everywhere in Milan this season, even at a classic house like Salvatore Ferragamo.
Creative director Massimiliano Giornetti used mustard, burnt orange, light blue, tomato and olive for his ummer suits worn with white shorts, or trousers and jackets in a texture cotton. He took the numbers 1, 2 and 4, inflated them, and placed them on stiff cotton sleeveless shirts and tunic tops, tanks, and knits.
There was a quilting motif too, for white leather jackets, and as a pattern on short plastic coats or cotton shirts. For outerwear, Giornetti played with volume.
Versace Catwalk Fashion Show Milan Menswear SS2014
Donatella Versace presented a playful collection full of shine and neon shades — models even wore thick strips of colored sports tape here and there on their bodies . There were leather jackets glistened with gold studs and zips, big rippling Medusa head on the back of shirts, and sheer black lace dress shirts. Then there were clean-cut tailored suits with a roomy silhouette, shiny buttons and strong shoulders, jackets paired with shorts and trousers that gather, tracksuit style, around the ankle. And for all those party-animals there were neon paint-splattered jeans, sweatshirts, and boiler suits that reveal a man at play. Wow.
Jil Sander Catwalk Fashion Show Milan Menswear SS2014
Jimmy Sommerville and Marianne Faithful were on the soundtrack of Jil Sanders menswear ss14 collection. Centre of this collection were crisp jackets and trim coats in cream, neon, black and white, the tailoring was boxy and lean. The neon popped up on cuffs and hems of loose white blousons and also edgings the inside-out seams of black blazers and trousers.
A futuristic edge gave the sculpted and glossy leathers and paper-like coats. A sporty vibe came from the oversized T-shirts and Bermuda-shorts.
Dolce & Gabbana Catwalk Fashion Show Milan Menswear SS2014
The Dolce & Gabbana Men’s Summer 2014 drew inspiration from Sicilian mythology, whose Greek origins are still retraceable in places such as the Valle dei Templi of Agrigento, at the majestic amphitheatres, like the one at Taormina, and at the Tempio di Apollo of Syracuse.
Visible on the catwalk were prints that represented the classic mythology through the faces of Zeus, Apollo and of antique temples. Besides the stretchy and tight-fitted suits (mostly in white) were blousons mixed with linen pants, shorts.

Trend Report SS2013: Japonism 2.0
Since a few seasons now designers seem fully focused on the far east. We’ve already seen collections with oriental shapes, techniques, materials and prints, but the Asian hype not over yet. For this season the Japonism is fashion is just taken to the next level with designers being divided into two Asian inspired worlds. The ones Emilio Pucci, Carolina Herrera, Altuzarra who opt for decorative designs, traditional techniques, bold prints and color. And the designers Etro, Stella McCartney, Prada, Marni that focus on shape and structure, introducing trouser suits, shirt dresses and architectural kimono shapes. Now you don’t need to go all the way (Geisha platforms, dragon printed dresses, Obi belts) like these designers to join the Asian celebration. Just invest in a subtle embroidered blouse or a chic kimono jacket. Mixing Japanese influences with your modern wardrobe pieces like they belong together in one look, that’s the trick.
Thom Browne Menswear Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2013
While blindfolded models hammering on a wooden construction formed the backdrop of Thom Browne’s fashion show, his walking models appeared from behind. The fact that they wore checked skirts and dress like designs could have been enough to keep us press interested. Yet Browne added an extra dimension to his looks, making them unique yet unwearable. His grey flannel suits, his cross printed vest, his checked pants and illusionist coat; they were all done in a boxy style. The effect of the square fits and the super stiff shoulders was even amplified by his square hats, rectangular sunglasses and geometric suitcases. Let’s hope Browne hat some real boxes hidden underneath his designs, so that when he removes those, he can actually sell some of these fall/winter creations.
Paul Smith Menswear Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2013
Who says fall collections have to be all about brown, grey and black? Paul Smith proved even prints and bright colors fit perfectly for an autumn collection. He showed suits in shades of mustard, red, flamingo pink and turquoise. Pairing a red pair of pants with a mustard jacket and combining different shades of blue in one office look. He introduced multiple colored houndstooth sweaters, a single Mondrian inspired creation and psychedelic prints popped up on a shirt and a winter coat. Models looked both confident and comfortable in the perfectly cut menswear designs. Sir Paul Smith’s ever growing Asian fan base won’t be disappointed and neither are we.
Saint Laurent Menswear Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2013
Skinny jeans, checked shirts, leather jackets and long striped scarves; Saint Laurent’s man is a grungy kind of guy for 2013. Jeans had multiple rips and the layering appeared careless on purpose. Hedi Slimane focused on how accessible his designs can be. So accessible both men and women should be able to pull them off (he proved by sending androgynous – real musician – models down the runway). It felt good to see menswear can be more than endless series of checked suits. Yet Slimane’s free spirited, punk creations perhaps could have been a little more original.
