Gucci Catwalk Fashion Show Milan FW2011

The metropolitan dandy was Frida Giannini’s muse for the fall 2011 Gucci menswear-collection. And how vain this dandy is, in his 70’s inspired impeccable suit in all tones of brown & grays worn with a purple or blue shirt and matching tie, polished shoes, ostrich-leather coat and slick hair. He even has his own clutch now, big enough to protect his daily newspaper ! (how old fashioned with the iPad in town).
The Gucci-man is still a playboy and will probably never ever become a dull housefather. Even during the weekend he looks like’s been studying every part of his outfit carefully. From the mohair sweater to the big, sheepskin coat and ribcord hunting-jacket. And please let him be, because besides the new intellectual in his HD-colored clothes we also need the naughty handsome playboy in his sensual, slick suit to balance it all out and keep us women dreaming.

The Gucci show of today was the first big fashion show of in Milan, yet didn’t fail to set the mood right for the rest of the Milan Fashion Week.
It was a show the rich Gucci girl will most certainly love. It was luxurious, elegant and feminine from the beginning till the end.
The luxurious feeling came from handmade and crafted extra’s. Embroideries and embellishments like beads, feathers, crystals, silk tassels, chains, rings and studs will surely make the Gucci women long for most of the pieces.
Frida Giannini this time designed her clothes for ‘modern amazons’, intellectual exotic women seen through an urban lens. Therefor there were Berber and Aztec influences. And the many (handcrafted) details and bright colors (emerald, fuchsia, orange, violet, turquoise and later camel and black) must have come from that tribal inspiration as well.
Although the suede and leather items appeared a bit too hot for summer, we suppose the Gucci girls can’t wait to get their hands on some of the fabulous harem pants and riding jackets.
Gucci Catwalk Fashion Show SS2011
Oh, that Gucci playboy! I loved every outfit that he showed this morning. From his deep blue slim fitted suit to his suede shorts with cotton knit sweater. And of course that kerchief around his neck and those bare feet in the houses signature loafers. Frida Giannini sticks to what Gucci stands for: slick menswear with a slightly dangerous touch and shaggy seventies feeling.
It was simply a very commercial collection, but there is nothing wrong with the way Giannini does it. As long as is has that luxury, playboy feeling. The suits in midnight blue were chic and fresh, for those lazy summerdays there are shorts, silk shirts with a classic scarf-print, cotton knit cardigans and sweaters and a laid back tuxedo in chocolate-brown, dark-blue or green.
And all those clothes fit easily in the new big Gucci-bag.

This was one of the most simple, easy and safe Gucci-collections I’ve seen in years. No real focus at bags – a few totes, croco shoulderbags and clutches – thigh high boots and high heels. The silhouet was pretty straight, sometimes bodyhugging. Short dresses in white, black and gray showed flashes of skin and were pimped up with silver details at wrists, neck or waist.Other dresses were more draped and had a painterly prints.
Pants were Gucci-like: slim, low at the waist and mixed with short (fur)jackets, silk tunics or a printed shirts. Big 70’s inspired coats in camel were eyecatching. This is what Gucci is known for, but I was hoping for a little bit more firework and inspiring ideas. The eveningwear though had just that extra elegance and sexappeal, great for a red carpet-moment instead of those big in your face gowns. Hopefully Rachel Zoe will be inspired, she was sitting frontrow at Gucci.
Milan Catwalk Fashion Show fw2010: Gucci
Gucci showed us the tasteful side of the Seventies – a period where a lot of mensweardesigners refer to for their fall-collections. Tasteful as in: monochrome camel, beige, black and off-white, faded blues, yellow and reds but also rich colors. This was not the most remarkeable Gucci-collection, as in new. The silhouet is still slim, with shorter jackets which had broader lapels, no excess of big accessories except for classic Gucci loafers, big sunglasses and a big bag. The Gucci man is still an angry young playboy, but he’s waiting for better times to come. It’s remarkablke that hardly any label shows tuxedo’s these days, I guess partytime is over. ‘ Come as you are’ sang Kurt Cobain while the last pack of models strolled down the runway. The Gucci-man just wears a velvet jacket in midnightblue, bottlegreen or burgundy. No bow, no shirt.
Trends ss2010: bathing in luxury
Of course when the spring/summercollections are presented, bathingsuits are shown. Several designers came up with some splendid beachwear. The only comment we have on these gorgeous bathing suits… they often looked too delicate to swim in. So it might be better to use them to lounge about and stroll on the beach.
The collection of Emporio Armani had a lot of beachwear. Unfortunately this was mostly black and wasn’t all that exciting.
Pucci did have several elegant beach items in its collection; some bathing suits in shades of nude and an ocean-blue version with a matching jacket.
Gucci showed us a nice grey-colored version decorated with studs.
We saw a muscular Naomi Campbell in a black & white, animalistic, one-shouldered bathing suit at Issa. It was one of the few shows for next spring where we could see the British topmodel.
Together with the bathing suits some designers (Etro, Pucci, Issa) created airy colorful tops. Those tops are great to wear at the beach especially over a fabulous bathing suit or bikini.

Gucci ss2010 looks like a real Gucci collection: bold patterns, tight fitted dresses, a good balance between tacky, sporty and sophisticated and with a lot of commercial power. It was as if Barbarella met with Tomb Raider. Dresses with cutouts and silver ornaments, lace-up and inserts of net-fabrics were all over, but also that typical Gucci miniskirt and leather motor jacket. Large Ikat-prints gave dresses and tops a more elegant feel, espacially mixed with black.
