Comme des Garcons Catwalk Fashion Show Paris Womenswear FW2014

Monster. That’s the word connected to the new Comme des Garcons-collection. Kawakubo’s green-lipped models plodded by ominously trancelike, arms bound and faces sometimes obscured, encased in piles, piles and more piles of thick, undulating padded knits, their bodies mere foundation for misshapen masses of woolen darkness and multiple sleeves. In show notes, Kawakubo said: “It’s not about the typical monster you find in sci-fi and video games. It’s more about the craziness of humanity, the fear we all have, the feeling of going beyond common sense, the absence of ordinariness, expressed by something extremely big, by something that could be ugly or beautiful.”

Edwin Oudshoorn Catwalk Fashion Show FW14

A Fools Paradise is wat designer Edwin Oudshoorn described his collection and the setting of his wonderful show at Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Nederland. No classic catwalk-event, but an improvised forest as a poetic decor. The title also referred to the restrictions striving for perfection causes. The result was a rich and elegant collection with lots of dramatic elements.

Dorhout Mees Catwalk Fashion Show FW14

Passage is the name of Dorhout Mees’ seventh collection. A collection meant for vulnerable yet powerful women based on organic forms and contrasts in material, colors and prints. Inspiration for prints and accessories came from wood and bark. Esther Dorhout Mees also presented her fourth shoe-collection, this time inspired by pieces of wood and made by 3D-print-technique. Frida by Alexandra Frida Catwalk Fashion Show FW14

Alexandra Vollebregt is the designer behind the women’s label Frida by Alexandra Frida. As a former graduate of ArtEZ Fashion Masters she’s specialized in textile design. Her line is a summer oriented ready to wear collection created for the young women, adventurous and with a free spirit. We thought this collection is perfect for a new season of music-festivals. Catch some atmosphere during the show at Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Nederland.

Ratna Ho Catwalk Fashion Show FW14

The all women band Krach playing in the right corner of the Transformatorhuis set the mood for the show. Then diverse models – some a little older than others, others a little more voluptuous – showed Ratna Ho’s f/w collection. A mix of straight silhouettes with ruffled, curly accents, sheer fabrics with thick, structured linings and robe detailing. Sheer black dresses were given a tropical colorful touch by those details. Dresses that would have looked common otherwise, yet now appeared luxurious and original, exclusive yet wearable and, not to mention, a little sexy. The transparent bags had the same detailing as the dresses and the surprising mix of straight and curly was even translated into the models’ hairdos. Ratna’s humor was definitely visible in the collection, but that doesn’t mean those clothes aren’t suitable for doing some serious business…

Jonathan Christopher Homme Catwalk Fashion Show FW14

Jonathan Christopher Homme likes to experiment with juxtapositions in life: masculine and feminine, light and dark, soft and harsh. All these elements were visible in his FW2014-collection which got rave reviews afterwards.

You don’t have to undress to be sexy was Jan Boelos message with his FW2014 collection. And indeed, he didn’t show a lot of skin. There was no need to. His male and female models rocked his autumn designs nonetheless.
