Peet Dullaert wins Frans Molenaar Award

Designer Peet Dullaert is this year’s winner of the Frans Molenaar Award. His four looks out of a whole collection of thirteen designs wowed the judges and made him win the money price of 10.000 euro. We spoke him after he just heard the good news.

Inspiration
“I designed this collection inspired by my grandmother’s brooch. A brooch which she got from a friend of Queen Juliana and was actually inherited by Anna Paulowna Romanova. I was fascinated by the legend I heard of women using their jewelry in their corsets as a piece of luxury for themselves. I wanted to create that kind of personal luxury and added a young and fresh way of tailoring”, Peet explains.

Modern technique
Peet used a very new technique to create his couture-likepieces: “I used a modern technique of layering many very thin fabrics on top of each other. You can not really see this straight away, but it gives the clothes a nice, airy flexibility. So I used the most fragile fabrics to create jackets, which are never made out of these kind of fabric. So the silhouettes may be boxy, but the fabrics still give the designs a soft touch. Everything I designed I did with the idea of hidden luxury. If you see my inspiration brooch you’ll notice it fits perfectly with this collection, since it’s very timeless.”

Next year
During next year’s award show Peet has the opportunity to show his work again. “I’m so overexcited with this award. I’m going to use the money to start a label of my own and I’ll be working hard on next year’s collection”, adds Peet who, with tears of joy in his eyes, says he’s ready for a drink together with his model friends.

Magnus Dekker wins Frans Molenaar award 2011

Today the Frans Molenaar Award 2011 was presented to upcoming design talent Magnus Dekker. He won a money price of 10.000 euro, which he can use to spend on making a name for himself in the fashion world.

Magnus’ collection was all about contradictions. He showed colorful, voluminous designs with flag prints all over them. His clothes were fun, well designed and his perfectly styled models rocked the Amsterdam runway.

Congrats Magnus, your collection was magnifying!

Frans Molenaar Catwalk Fashion / Award Show

Seven young & talented designers showed their skills during the Frans Molenaar award show. They all presented five of their looks on the runway. A jury of three fashion professionals chose Fred Farrow as the winner of the Frans Molenaar award. They thought his collection was very new, beautifully made and had lots of nice details. Above you can find some looks of all the seven students, including the designs of Fred Farrow.

Hyun Yeu (womenswear) Catwalk Fashion Show SS2011

On Friday Hyun Yeu presented his womenswear collection just one day after his menswear show. There were ten looks ranging from a long peach-colored gala gown to a black lace party dress.

The blouses looked very good, especially a transparent black one. They had special shoulders and sleeves. A strong jacket with cut sleeves looked very good.

Like in Hyun Yeu’s menswear collections the womenswear pants looked great. The lace and sequined dresses would be great for a night out, yet they were not very outspoken and could have had more of a Hyun Yeu touch.

Such a pity there were only ten looks, we would have loved to see more…
