Victoria Beckham Catwalk Fashion Show Womenswear New York SS2015

It looks like Victoria Beckham is re-addressing her aesthetic signature now that she has a store of her own in London. The designer approached spring a lot like a retailer, with staple items — a shirt, a sweater, a coat — that may have hinted at a few directions but were united by Beckham with polish and commercial appeal. These included the uniform-inspired khaki looks, such as the elongated coat with subtle military details like soft epaulets and workwear pockets. The knits and graphic stripes made a bolder statement, though she kept the lineup’s surprise for the finale of bright florals that were screen-printed on voluminous woven raffia skirts and shown with white cotton shirts.

DKNY Catwalk Fashion Show Womenswear New York SS2015

‘New York Nation’ was the theme of DKNY’s bold spring collection, which aimed to celebrate the city’s color, culture and creativity. Donna Karan translated the idea via bright hues, several graphically rendered like a kaleidoscope on oversize silhouettes. Those included the striking red-and-blue V-neck tunic over a full skirt with a soft flounce. The subtler colors achieved more effect, such as the crisp mint-green parka shown with a striped T-shirt and a miniskirt. It still captured the energy of Gotham, but with just the right control.

Fashion Week Amsterdam SS2015, this was Day 3

Day three of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam was a day of extremes, with the modern menswear of Mevan Kaluarachchi to the colorful collections of Vibrant Pakistan.

Models with soaking wet hair and a touch of turquoise underneath their eyes paraded the By Brown (Brown clothes before) catwalk on Saturday evening. They seemed to have just walked out of the sea, onto the beach on a hot summer day. A day perfect for pairing airy dresses and summer knits. A day for asymmetrical slouchy pants and pleated. Touches of leather and fiercely accentuated shoulders for later on. Whites, sandy tones and hints of aqua and yellow added to the summery feeling of the show. Some of the pieces of the RESTLESS SYMMETRY collection might never end up in a ‘real woman’s wardrobe’, but there were plenty of elegant wearable pieces (a designing skill designer Melanie Brown developed while working at Stills) that would. It was Browns first big fashion week show in Amsterdam and she certainly left her mark.

Fashion Week Amsterdam SS2015, this was Day 2

The second day of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam was a busy day with a variety of fashion-shows. From the stylish Ready to Fish ILJA show to the cheerful show of Lichting 2014. Winner of this years edition is Bastian Visch from The Academy of Arts in The Hague. And of course lots of visitors enjoyed themselves outside in the sun.

Miu Miu Catwalk Fashion Show Paris Womenswear FW2014

Miucca Prada presented a Miu Miu collection on top of this season’s trends: athletic practicality, fantastic knits and novelty furs, a subset of outerwear.
The attitude was perky and young, captured in neat, sporty nylon jackets layered over hooded windbreakers and quilted minis. They came in combinations of sweet pastels — white with pale pink, sea-foam green and baby blue — and classic bolds — gray with royal blue, kelly green and yellow — that were eventually gussied up with foiled brocades and chunky embroideries. Throughout, the slightly Sixties silhouettes suggested school uniforms, particularly the series of tailored gray wools and sweater-and-skirt looks.
Everything was highly wearable, utilitarian even, when it came to the long raincoats that came in clear plastic or traced with bright graphic stripes, and flat rubber rain boots.

Hermès Catwalk Fashion Show Womenswear Paris FW2014

Hermès-designer Christophe Lemaire ended Paris Fashion Week on a sophisticated note, with a lineup executed in the ultraluxurious vein the house is known for.

Lemaire surfed on many fall trends, most notably men’s wear via oversize coats and suits and textures boldly mixed in a variety of surfaces. There was an overall ease to the relaxed silhouettes, including the opening look, a chic gray coat over a white shirt and slouchy pants.
Standouts came with Lemaire’s play on the silk scarf. He worked it in unexpected ways — the back of a shearling vest, for example, or as the base of a silk-and-cashmere shell top shown with a decadent mustard-colored crocodile skirt.

This is Hermès, and so leather was key. Lemaire used it for a black draped dress and a dark green coat with an easy, sporty fit, among others.

 

First View Paris Womenswear FW2014: Knitdressing

 

Knitting is clearly a theme. We list here 4 designers, but can give you many more, who opt for the soft and cuddly. Staging strong women in tender knits, in all its textural and shapely variations.
Sonia Rykiel, plays with traditional body-wraps, all with a Rykiel wink and twist. Sleeve-scarves and semi-pelerines on layers of velours touch crafted jerseys. Stella McCartney’s chunky knit pyjama-style pants might become the seasonal must-have item. She manages to add some sex appeal to this snug look. Wrapping and knotting in a semi-relaxed way is obviously on trend.
Celine shows her knits sleek, lean and slender, in subtle glitz, vibrantly accessorized with crafted jewellery.
We see more artful knit representations at Issey Miyake. Mixing masterful layers of exquisite monochrome textured variations. Oversized blanket wraps, fluffy sweaters over silver sculpted pants.
But there is more – among them the surreal knitting at Viktor & Rolf combining crafted knits with digital cable-knit prints, and Haider Ackermann with sumptuous longer then long rib knitted sweaters and matching pants.
Knits intertwine the tough and the tender.
