The Dutch press had an extra reason to visit the John Richmond show today. Dutch celeb Yolanthe Sneijder Cabau (wife of Inter Milan soccer player Wesley Sneijder) walked in the show. She opened and closed the show and worked the runway like a pro, even though she’s not a model!

Carolina Herrera Catwalk Fashion Show New York FW2011

There were not a lot surprises at the Carolina Herrera fashion show. It was a classic womenswear collection full of beautiful designs, yet it didn’t feel very fresh. The models were dressed properly but it all appeared very tame.

The models did look very elegant and feminine in their pencils skirts and tight dresses, accentuating their hourglass figures. Their sequined tops seemed perfect for a nice cocktail party and the enormous cuffs gave some looks an unexpected twist (though not very practical).

Some designs in orange, turquoise and blue, added towards the end of the collection, looked lovely and slightly younger that the first few looks. The colors of Karlie Kloss’ evening gown were daring, yet worked perfect together and made up for a Oscar worthy A-list look.

But we think Caroline Herrera doesn’t even need those celebrities to wear her clothes. We guess she has more than enough loyal customers who will immediately fall in love with this new collection. ‘Cause one thing’s for certain Carolina Herrera knows the woman she designs for all too well and always sticks to her (winning) code.

Elsien Gringhuis Catwalk Fashion Show FW2011

Elsien Gringhuis took her inspiration for her fall winter 2011 collection from the Dutch countryside, with it’s endless view, clear fields and lots of wind. She called her collection ‘One of these days’, after a Pink Floyd song. Giving away a bit of the ominous feeling this seeming fresh collection has.

For her 18 different looks Elsien used natural materials (no wonder she won the Green Fashion Competition!)  like hand painted silk, bamboo and wool and opted for colors like black, white, green and (light) blue.

For this new collection she focused more on the wearability of her designs. She also developed her way of pattern making. ‘I challenge myself trying to use the minimal amount of parts for my patterns, maybe one or two’, Elsien said. ‘I also tried to give the collection more of an airy feeling then I did with other collection.’

We thought the collection felt very minimalistic with it’s clean cuts and it’s plain colors. The silhouette looked refreshing and elegant and we loved the long jackets and jumpsuits.

Sage & Ivy Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam FW2011

Today Alexia van Engelen surprised us with her brand new Russian inspired winter collection.

We saw some gorgeous embroideries and beautifully detailed blouses and evening dresses, followed by shiny leggings and corsetlike tops. The airy fabrics and the use of lace made the models look very elegant. It also made us think of chic dinners and long nights in front of the open fire. Nights on which a knitted cardigan or a furry cape would come in handy

The shape and the tailoring of the clothes was perfect. Also the colors of the collection (shades of cream, white, beige and just a little bit of black) felt nice for winter. ‘Cause it doesn’t always have to be all black right?

We fell in love with the show area too; the Felix Meritus building was a perfect match with the Russian story of this new Sage & Ivy collection

Great job Alexia!

Indiviuals Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam FW2011

The individuals fashion show was all about taking a leap of faith. The moment when morals collapse and barriers fade. As adrenaline kicks in, everything turns black.

And there indeed was a lot of black in the collection (named La Petite Mort), mixed with some shades of red/orange. It felt kind of Gothic, especially combined with the dark eyes and the ‘hairy’ shoes.

Airy fabrics and corset-like details made the designs look super feminine. Plus strong, raised shoulders made up for some powerful details.

Individuals

Individuals is run by a changing collective of young creatives. By combining this talent an inspiring story can be told. Individuals showed it’s tenth collection today.
