On the afternoon of 9 February designer Ilja Visser presented her Ready to fish fall/winter collection for 2010/2011. For the fashion show a small fashion audience gathered at a location in the center of Amsterdam. The great building has since a few months become Ilja Visser’s office and within a month a Ilja Visser shop will be opened there too.

At the fashion show we met with Mrs. Forester, a nice well-dressed lady, who protects the forest. Mrs. Forester wears the prettiest clothes, takes care of the trees and the flowers and is always happy. For her the presentation of new collection, which was inspired by this lady, Ilja took us deep into the woods.

While a forest-inspired video was played at the back of the room Mrs. Forester was represented in many woolen outfits like a catsuit and a long buttoned cardigan. Heavy and light fabrics combined together in several outfits formed a great aspect of the collection.

Pants were pleated and draped. A few jackets had the shiny print of hanging leaves all over them. Other pants and tops had moss prints in different natural colors. The models carried clutches with them and wore large hats, which looked splendid.

Ilja held a great show. The materials looked amazing and the location made the show feel extra special. And we…we just got carried away by the whole forest-story.

Non by Kim Amsterdam Fashion Week fw2010

The Non by Kim fashion show started with the sound of strong wind. Models with snow in their hair appeared on the catwalk in heavy woolen sweaters and thick scarves.

The show was inspired by the South Pole, so Kim Bakker designed the clothes of a whole new civilization, which could be living in the midst of the pole.

Halfway the show the models acted as if they were walking on cracking ice, thus they carefully walked the first part of the runway.

The colors of the collection were gray, light blue and brown. A pair of trousers and several Norwegian knitted sweaters were made out of all sorts of colored wool.

Some models wore glasses that looked like ski glasses from the old days. Other models had a bright blue contact lens in one of their eyes.

The fashion label Non by Kim was founded in 2007 by designer Kim Bakker. During this Amsterdam Fashion Week she presented her fourth collection of menswear.

Tonight we saw what Mattijs was all about. His fashion show contained some qualitative, wearable fashion items.

Just as in his latest collection he presented a lot of pleated designs, like a black and a red pleated dress combined with golden belts and bracelets. Other eye-catching details were ruffles and frayed ends with long threads hanging at the bottom of some dresses.

We saw a fur balloon-shaped skirt and tops with puffy sleeves. The models wore snake leather shoes.
Mattijs used crazy color combinations like turquoise with pink. And again we saw a lot of metallic and shiny fabrics.

For next winter Veronique Nichanian designed a qualitative and diversified menswear collection for Hermès. Just like many desigers Veronique opted for gray as the main color. Though she added some red, blue, green and black.

The Hermès models were well-dressed and much attention was paid to every little detail. From the floral scarfs to the handkerchiefs in the breast-pockets and the chains attached to the trousers.

The collection had velours jackets, turtle necks, woolly cardigans, leather pants and jackets with zippers that were only zipped in the middle.

Over a few coats the models wore a sophisticated leather belt and their large scarfs were tied in a particular way. Two snake leather jackets were real showpieces.

Altogether it was a solid collection with very wearable designs.

MABILLE

Alexis Mabille just started his own fashion-label, but he’s not a complete stranger to the fashion-world. After he graduated from the Paris’ Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in 1997 he worked for Nina Ricci, Christian Dior and Dior Homme. In 2005 he launched Alexis Mabille, a collection of unisex ready-to-wear clothing and Treizeor – an imaginatively revisited line of bow-ties. His style is frivolous and dynamic, and always sophisticated.

Paris Catwalk Fashion Show fw2010: Comme des Garcons

The first models that came on the runway at the Comme des Garcons fashion show wore corduroy outfits and hoodies with fur, which covered a big part of their faces.

Then a few printed suits, mixed with shirts and matching waistcoats came by.  At the back of some jackets the shoulders and waists were accentuated by black contours.

The Comme des Garcons trend for fall seemed to be layering. Many outfits had two pairs of trousers, worn on top of each other. One of them was long, the other shorter and much wider.

Long cardigans were worn under some jackets as well. Even a fur coat was visible from under a small jacket.

Apart from a pair of bright pink socks and shoes the collection’s colors were very modest (and masculine).

Paris Catwalk Fashion Show fw2010: Louis Vuitton

Dutch designer Paul Helbers presented a very wearable Louis Vuitton menswear collection. His decent-looking models wore items you could easily imagine on men passing by on the street.

The clothes came in masculine shades like dark gray, black and brown. Paul Helbers designed knitted cardigans and double-breasted, long, woolly coats. As seen in other f/w menswear collections the LV-jackets – as well as his bags – often had leather details. The leather used for some coats almost looked fake, while it had no creases, tears or what-so-ever.

A lot of big bags were shows. Christian Schoeler had painted some Vienna-inspired ones in white with fading colors, representing winter landscapes. Most models wore leather gloves and walked on boot-clogs in which they’ d tucked their legs.

At the end of the show both Paul Helbers and Marc Jacobs appeared on the runway, while Marc Jacobs applauded for his Dutch colleague.

Milan Catwalk Fashion show fw2010: Roberto Cavalli

The Roberto Cavalli fashion show was a mix of several themes. There were military influences and Victorian details. Yet the show was also very Cavalli due to the use of jaguar prints.

One piece of clothing really stood out: tartan trousers, cut just under the knee. Those trousers came by in a few variations matched with large coats, metal mash tank tops or velour’s jackets. One metallic top had such a detailed pattern that the material resembled lace fabric.

Roberto Cavalli accentuated the men’s body in the right way with this collection; small at the bottom and wide at the top. So his trousers were tight and his big jackets had emphasized shoulders and XL collars with often, not one but two, fur layers.

The models wore shiny shoes in different shades. Their feminine metal belts had all sorts of frills and therefore were real showpieces.

The use of military as a theme may not have been quite renewing. Yet overall the Cavalli collection was creative and sophisticated.
