SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam FW2011

We saw some Fast Ladies on the runway at SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers. Wearing loose-fitting overalls (with lammy collars), knitted dresses, leather jackets and loose pants the girls rocked the show, inspired by the first women in race sport and aviation.
Truus and Riet Spijkers always felt that women should feel free and live up to their dreams, so they chose Amelia Earhart (the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean) as the muse of this new collection.
The silhouettes were very tailored, yet everything looked very comfortable and elegant. The shades of black, true blue, dreamblue, grey blue, ochre, ecru and light taupe worked together beautifully. The brand new ‘cloud print’ the sisters designed in red and blue felt like a modern camouflage print and looked fresh.
Congrats on your second SIS collection Spijkertjes!

Amsterdam International Fashion Week Preview: Addy van den Krommenacker FW2011

On Friday the 28th of January Addy van den Krommenacker will present his brand new collection during the Amsterdam Fashion Week. The couturier, who is not only popular in the Netherlands but is also a big hit in Italy, tells us his collection is inspired by a strong woman. Therefore the collection is called: A glamorous pieceful warior woman.
For this collection Addy looked for a new challenge. He said: ‘I an known for my glamorous red carpet looks, but this time I wanted to create a more tough woman. Of course she’ll still have my style.’
To create the clothes for this tough woman Addy used tough materials. ‘I used organza, lace and sequins, but the tough part is mostly visible in the colors of the collection. That is, I used colors I never used like this before and I didn’t opt for the very feminine colors I usually use. I also worked with a new technique: moulage.’
Addy will be showing at least 50 different outfits and is extremely busy at the moment (only four days after the fashion in Amsterdam Addy is already showing in Rome). ‘Every week from Sunday to Wednesday I go to Milan to visit the studio. I work hard, but being in Milan and having diner there is also a great way to relax. Besides, the whole process of making fashion is of course great fun.’
Although Addy is been a fashion designer for years, he still gets nervous. ‘The closer my fashion show gets, the more nervous I bvecome. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and I start thinking about everything. Sometimes I come up with great ideas too, so then I get up and put them in my iPad. Other times I just close my eyes again and think ‘Tomorrow is another day’.
What we didn’t know of Addy is that he helps with producing the music for his show too. ‘I love music, so I’m working on the music for my show as well.’
Addy’s musthave for next fall? ‘A tough trenchcoat, which you’ll see in my new collection’
We’re looking forward to the show!
Sjaak Hullekes Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2011

Dutch designer Sjaak Hullekes showed his new menswear collection in Paris this week. Like you’d expect from Sjaak it was full of perfectly tailored designs, like neat trousers, blouses, coat and some winter proof cardigans. Sjaak used a beautiful colored palette ranging from light grey to camel to black. His designs were all very wearable and he showed nothing too over the top. Two items people will need some time to adjust to were Sjaak’s black shirt made of a large netting and a white version with a netted collar. Apart from those two items, we’re sure the collection will be a definite hit once it hits the stores.
Jean Paul Gaultier Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2011
Jean Paul Gaultier’s menswear show was one big spectacle. It started with turning & flipping ninjas and the introduction of Blond. James Blond, the androgynous model Andrej Pejic with his long blond wavy hair.
The collection was filled with tuxedo’s in the most diverse examples; tuxes with hot pants and fishnets, tuxes with long, navy-buttoned skirts, and a whole passage of neoprene jackets and tuxes with wet suits. Golden pants were padded, jackets were embossed. And in between all that funny fashion JPG also introduced his brand new collection of shades, he designed for Alain Mikli. Pure fashion entertainment.
Amsterdam International Fashion Week Preview: Bas Kosters FW2011

We have one week to go till the Amsterdam International Fashion Week starts. So to get you in the right mood for all the great Dutch fashion you’re going to see next week, we will present you some previews of the collections of several Dutch designers. We kick off with rebel designer Bas Kosters, who will show on Thursday evening, the 27th of January.
Bas Kosters has had a lot on his mind these past weeks. Besides putting his collection together he is busy with some other projects as well, including a new commercial job, which we will hear more about soon. Yet despite the rush Bas is pretty calm: ‘The days I was finishing my collections in the middle of the night are in the past. Now I make sure I rest when I need to, otherwise things get out of control. And there’s really no need in wearing yourself out, cause at the day of the show you still have to be presentable (you have to talk to the press and you’ll get photographed).’
And Bas is right on schedule, cause the biggest part of the collection, inspired by mutants, is done. For those of you who’ve seen Bas’ show at the Dutch Fashion Awards, this – indeed – is the same collection, yet expanded. ‘The collection we’re going to show during the AIFW is more prêt-à-porter. For the Dutch Fashion Awards we were in hurry, we finished the collection (of 15 items) in three weeks. This time everything is far more balanced. Plus, we’ve added five menswear looks.’
According to Bas this collection is very different from what we’ve seen before. ‘The last couple of collections were very dark, this time we brought back the color. We also used some new techniques. For instance, we used special painting techniques and we used screen prints and digital prints.’
Bas continues: ‘The collection will also be more refined and there will be more shape in the designs. My favorite look is one of the outfits from the finale. It’s a dress made from silk pastel strips and when the model walks in it, it moves beautifully.’
Like almost everything Bas works on next week’s show will definitely not be your average fashion show. He promises a great spectacle and we sure can’t wait to see what he’s got in stores for us…

Roberto Cavalli Catwalk Fashion Show Milan FW2011

For fall/winter Roberto Cavalli presented his new collection, called Groovy Mood. It sure was groovy and had the seventies (a popular inspiration in womenswear at the moment too) written all over it. Male models wore tight jackets combined with slightly flared pants in shades like rust, red, camel and brown. They had small scarves tied around their neck and their boots were kinda pointy.
Besides the suits Cavalli also introduced some shearling, suede, fur (which looked a little too pimpy) and oversized knitted ponchos, which not every men will be able to pull of. Therefore we doubt if the collection is going to be a huge success. Yet is sure was fun to watch!

Last night all the clothes from the Lanvin for H&M collection came alive during the grand haute couture fashion show in New York. Everyone who is someone in the world of fashion was gathered at the Pierre Hotel. Stars like Sofia Coppola, Andie MacDowell and Elettra Wiedemann attended were their the celebrate H&M’s latest collaboration with fashion house Lanvin.
Especially for the show all pieces from the Lanvin for H&M collection were reworked and were given an individual touch. So real haute couture was presented on the runway! The special pieces will later be sold in an auction and all proceeds will be donated to UNICEF.
The models (Pixie Geldof, Olga and Anna dello Russo to name a few) playfully walked the runway. Anna dello Russo even brought a dog on stage.
It was one big party which, for the guests, had a spectacular ending. They were all allowed to buy seven pieces of the Lanvin for H&M collection. Unfortunately we have to wait until November 23. We’re so jealous!
Alexander McQueen Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2011

It was the first McQueen collection former assistant Sarah Burton had made on her own and she did a great job.
She presented a collection inspired by Mother Earth that was slightly lighter than we are used to from McQueen himself. Burton showed baroque-details, golden embroideries, high collars and pointy shoulders
Colorful prints in orange and ochre were combined with black and white. There were lots of sheer designs and many creations had nature influences, like leafs, feathers, peacock feathers and wheat.
The hair of the models was done in a special way; it was braided like a woven basket and looked stunning.
After the show everyone was enthusiastic, even the photographers thought it was a perfect McQueen show. So, job wel done Burton, McQueen would be proud.

Kenzo Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2011

On Tuesday night Antonio Marras not only presented a new summer collection for Kenzo, but also celebrated the brand’s 40th anniversary. Though he’s only been designer at Kenzo for six years he had the honor to design a special collection of pieces from the label’s archive.
The pieces had influences from Japan (Kenzo’s origins) as well as Sardinia (Marras’ origins) in them, which combined surprisingly well. There were kimono’s and floor sweeping dresses, floral prints and sequins
While the spring/summer collection had mostly light colors and pastels in it, the finale was super bright. Kenzo stretched out the models’ figures by putting them on high shoes and giving hem all sorts of head pieces. The outfits were a combination of layers of Kenzo’s signature color prints.
While the circular stage at Cirque d’Hiver turned around everyone in the audience could get a good look at the forty models. It created the most beautiful image. On to the next forty years!
