Etro Catwalk Fashion Show SS2011

The male models at Etro were right to wear a big smile on the catwalk: the new collection looked marvellous, the guys sexy and confident.

Every outfit felt right. First the paisley shorts and the transparent shirt, then the body-fit suit, the checked trenchcoat, the neat pants, the paisley-printed Tees and the V-neck sweaters. All shown in a beautiful soft color palette of white, grey, pink, olive green, beige, sand and a splash of yellow towards the end. It formed a nice contrast with the bright green of the turf the models walked on.

The paisley prints gave this collection a nice edge. We know a pair of paisley trousers will be a little too outspoken for some guys, yet the modern metro-man will definitely know how to work them. Just as he will love the new tie; small, with a straight bottom.

In fact, all details Kean Etro added to his looks were stunning: the bags, the leather belts and the handkerchiefs.

We’re sure this summer any woman would love her man to look like Etro’s models did today.

A Wunderkammer perfumed with amber and absinthe, that was the startingpoint of Etro’s collection. The result was a collection with sensual, oriental influences and the somewhat rounded silhouet of Paul Poiret. Kimono-dresses, layering, satin, new style paisleys and neo-colonial dressing.

Male and female, plain and printed melted in the same look. Mini-robes draped over the double breasted blazer were teamed with harempants, furcoats and cocktail frocks became cardigans. Colors were vibrant with the shades of semi-precious stones: emerald, jade, amber.

The eveningwear was sensual and bodyhugging: satin dresses with samurai-dragons at the back or draped with prints like tattoo’s.

Catwalktrends ss2010: really tiny bags

Tiny bags definitely seem to be a trend on the runway. Yet they are very unpractical, because there aren’t many items that will fit in these bags.

But can we still call it a bag? Most versions we saw on the runway looked more like extraordinarily shaped purses, if you ask us.

The bags may be unpractical, yet they created some funny looks on the catwalk. Extremely tiny were the bags in the Anteprima, Blugirl, Bottega Veneta, Etro, DSquared, Fendi and Moschino fashion show. .

Most original were the Fendi bag with spikes, the pink bag form Gianfranco Ferré, the wooden ‘bag frame’ from Stella McCartney and the silk heart shaped bag from Moschino.

Unfortunately you’d have to keep most of these tiny bags in your hand all evening, but do they look cute!

Trends ss2010: slim silhouettes

Although models usually  have a slim silhouette already, for ss2010 a few designers made their models look even taller and thinner than they normally are.

At Missoni’s fashion show the clothes with maximum lengths accentuated the models’ slim figures. The girls were wrapped in lots of layers as well. They wore long cardigans on top of long dresses, that only left a small part of their legs uncovered. The fact that Angela Missoni mostly used one shade per outfit added  the feeling of the girls looking slimmer than ever.

Besides Missoni, many other brands had long slim pieces in their collections. Etro, Calvin Klein, Blumarine, Roberto Cavalli, Alberta Ferretti and Oscar de la Renta showed some great examples. Most of these were long feminine dresses, made of ultra-light and airy fabrics to make the outfit look less stiff.

Flowers or sequins were the finishing touch on many of these silhouette-accentuating outfits.

Trends ss2010: his is hers

The boyfriend jackets have been around for a while and looking at the SS2010 collections they’ll be staying a bit longer. Unisex clothes like loose-fitting jackets, blouses, gilets and pants were spotted in many fashion shows. Brands like Chloé, Etro and Ralph Lauren seemed to have unisex as a total theme in their show. Not to mention Lacoste, which always has a lot of his&hers items in its show. Chloé’s unisex designs looked rather stiff and sober and didn’t look like  women’s clothes at all. Although the items were all very wide and masculine, some of them had little feminine details. A few ruffles, sequins, belts, round collars, small legs and tucked up sleeves made the outfits very wearable.. At D&G the girls wore a small scarf to soften their looks. Cavalli combined some floaty floral blouses with wide pants and long jackets. Veronica Etro used light shades to make her designs appropriate for women. The designers showed that with the right approach even a man’s suit can look super-sexy. (Tess van Daelen)

At Etro’s ss 2010 fashion-show Veronica Etro proved to be on top of her game with a soft and feminine collection. Dresses were alternated with suits, all in light shades of grey, orange, brown and lilac. The dresses had wide, pleated and airy collars and layering. There was a lot of Etro’s paisley print in these dresses, but there were also flower- and feather-prints. Models with big frizzy hair wore even bigger belts, tied together by laces. Oversized suits showed loose-fitting pants and jackets with tucked-up sleeves. In the breast pockets of those jackets a subtle piece of handkerchief was visible. The flowers at one specific jacket looked as if they were real. The whole collection seemed a little inspired by  American Indians. This idea was fed by the use of feather-prints, lots of laces, long earrings and necklaces with tassels, upper-arm jewelry and shades of brown and beige. (Tess van Daelen)

The invitation of Etro, flower power glasses, made us smile. Being at their show is always a special treat, with good food and drinks. Did you know that all aspects of this fashionbrand are still family-owned and operated? Veronica Etro designs womenswear and Kean Etro handles menswear – and he’s still happy with that we noticed backstage.

The collection of Etro was one big, happy, shiny colorfestival. Suits, shirts, T-shirts and accessories in every color you can imagine. Prints were inspired by dazzling mandala’s, but influences also appeared on large buttons, details at shoes, bags and pockets.
