Issey Miyake presented a collection with special effects in the clothes: black and white checks that bled at the end, digital prints of raffia that dissolevd into a blur.
Daily favorites in Paris
Every day there is a short list of favorites I’ve seen at the shows. Yesterday the collection of Dries really stood out because of his extra-ordinairy and casual mix of masculine and feminine looks, especially the oversized jackets I loved.
I was also struck by the hair and make up at Limi Feu, the big wide curly hair, one eye hidden and the other made up with black eyeliner and a thick layer of mascara. An the soundtrack was great too, classical music mixed with phrases sung by Billy Holiday.
The day ended with Rue du Mail by Martine Sitbon. The designer played with sheer, colored layers over black or cream dresses. My favorite is the blue dress with visible seams and pleats. The layering look very dynamic and modern.
Hakaan Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2011

Hakaan Yildirim was this year’s winner of the french Andam-award and the designer – with roots in Turkey and based in London – presented a solid collection in head to toe cream or black for the first time in Paris. He must be a hot ticket, since he somehow managed to get supermodels like Daria Werbowy to walk the show. She opened the show in a slouchy jacket and tapering trousers.
His overall look was minimalist-sexy, with a long elongated silhouette and floorsweeping mermaid dresses. He also presented tunics and minidresses asymmetrical cut and with pleated inserts.
D Squared Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2011

It looked as if the twin-brothers Dean and Dan Caten had plucked all the fancy, chic citygirls from the street and put them on the stage tot show their spring-collection. The show was all about modern streetwear, the mix a young citygirl wears: something she found in her mothers closet, took from her boyfriend and bought herself at vintage store. She picked out oversized cardigans, tight bermudas, loose khaki’s, a suit and even mens-shoes plus old fashioned, printed scarves and golden necklaces.
It made a pretty collection of stuff you already know, it was nice to watch but the ideas were old. The late 60’s/early 70’s vibe (shiftdresses, long wide pants, shorts) gave it a more fashionable touch, since these periods popped up in other shows in Milan. There was hardly any color – beside the bags and some prints – the designers focused at khaki, black & white and blue.

Catwalk Fashion Show LAMB New York SS2011

Singer, fashion designer and mother of two, Gwen Stefani, presented her new collection as the closing show of New York Fashion Week on Thursday. After several seasons of smaller presentations her brand LAMB (Love, Angel, Music, Baby) was back on the main stage.
Her designs for next summer were inspired by African tribal looks. ‘I’ve always wanted to do the tribal thing but it’s pretty hard to get right. I think we’ve got it’, Gwen said. She sent out colorful, printed clothes on the runway, that indeed felt like Africa, especially with the changing backdrop of colorful skies.
The African inspired mixed prints were alternated by checks and stripes. Though the prints were traditional, the fitting of the clothes and the accessories like hats and bags made it all seem very modern.
The collection was both feminine and tough; there where flirty dresses and ruffled shoulders, but also suits and manly pants combined with short tops. Every outfit very much breathed Gwen’s personal style and there wasn’t one look she wouldn’t wear herself.
All of No Doubt, her hubby and her two suns were there to support Gwen. Son Kingston was so proud he ran on stage at the end of the show to walk the catwalk with his mummy. O, what a heart-warming ending of a great New York Fashion Week.
Diane von Fürstenberg Catwalk Fashion Show New York SS2011

Frenchman Yvan Mispelaere is the new right hand of Diane von Fürstenberg. He brings along the experience he’s got working at Gucci, Chloe (when Phoebe Philo was in charge) and Louis Feraud. For his first DvF-collection he got inspiration from an Isadora Duncan retrospective in Paris and he dubbed it Goddess.
But the collection was not about Grecian draping, the theme referred to empowered, intellectual beauty. The dominant look was clean, crispy sportswear in major graphic prints and bold, subtle colors (mint, melon, sky-blue, peach, purple)): light weight silk separates – fluidly tailored shorts, shirts and jackets – and the houses signature dresses. Hooded jumpsuits and flowing caftans added a hint of summer. And yes, there was some draping and even a golden Goddess-dress, but van Mispelaere knew were to stop.

Hyun Yeu (womenswear) Catwalk Fashion Show SS2011

On Friday Hyun Yeu presented his womenswear collection just one day after his menswear show. There were ten looks ranging from a long peach-colored gala gown to a black lace party dress.
The blouses looked very good, especially a transparent black one. They had special shoulders and sleeves. A strong jacket with cut sleeves looked very good.
Like in Hyun Yeu’s menswear collections the womenswear pants looked great. The lace and sequined dresses would be great for a night out, yet they were not very outspoken and could have had more of a Hyun Yeu touch.
Such a pity there were only ten looks, we would have loved to see more…
