Gianfranco Ferré Catwalk Fashion Show Milan FW2011/2012

Gianfranco Ferre felt kinda minimalistic today, due to the use of very basic shades (camel, navy, white). Yet there were a lot of beautiful details in the collection as well. Like coats with multiple collars or see through silver dresses.

Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi’s fall collection was fairly straightforward and approachable in a sleek, sexy way. They stuck to a lean silhouette — sheath dresses cut to cigarette pants, and clean coats, some collarless and some with lapels only on one side. The dresses fell just below the knee, many detailed in the front, whether with a shiny panel of metallic fabric, a shredded effect, or sheared fur.

As things progressed towards eveningwear, the sheaths came with embroidered banded effects, some of them backless with crisscrossed spaghetti straps.

Although not at the official list of the AIFW, the Sage & Ivy-show was well visited by press and curious fashion-lovers. It was the second collection of designer Alexia van Engelen, and this time the collection was inspired by St Petersburg.

Samira Algoe & Roya Hesam Catwalk Fashion Show AIFW FW2011

On Thursday the 27th of January Roya Hesam and Samira Algoe both showed a small collection.

Roya Hesam’s collection, named Te Mana O Te Moana (Spirit of the Ocean) was designed from the vulnerability of women, yet contained a lot of strength. The show had a very Eastern feeling to it and contained beautiful shades like blues, turquoise and nudes. Hesam’s work is characterized by the use of transparent fabrics combined with covering fabrics. She also likes to use special techniques.

The menswear collection of Zem by Samira Algoe was named ‘The Sound of Mountains’. She likes to use geometric shapes and unconventional materials in her work. Algoe showed many soft tones; colors, that will remember you of the winter cold, snow, rain, breeze and bright sunlight.

Sonia Rykiel Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2011

The weather in Paris hasn’t been very good the last couple of days. But as it was raining outside, inside the Sonia Rykiel fashion show it felt like a sauna (a little smelly sauna actually). Yet despite the smell we enjoyed the typical Sonia Rykiel show full of colors, stripes and knitwear.

The show had a seventies vibe and felt very happy due to the bright shades (pink, red, yellow, turquoise) and of course the smiling models with their frizzy hair.

Just like last season the designs (the men’s suits, the jumpsuits and the knitted dresses) were very oversized. Although some silhouette was created by what looked like stiff karate-belts in all kinds of brights. Other accessories were clutches, ultra large bags and hats with playful tassels.

A few detailed printed and sequined jumpsuits, shown towards the end, seemed the only new items Nathalie and Sonia came up with for spring. Even the finally, with groups of models appearing on the runway acting all crazy, was nothing unexpected, but it sure was fun to watch and led to some beautiful runway pictures.

Yohji Yamamoto Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2010

Fleece blankets had to be handed out to the audience at the Yohji Yamamoto show. There was no heat in the venue. After Yamamoto filed for bankruptcy protection in October many stores had to be closed. So maybe Yamamoto had to cut down on his heat expenses. Fortunately his fall collection soon made people forget about the cold.

Yamamoto showed a fine collection of navy, black and ivory pieces. He designed lots of sober asymmetrical coats and pinafore dresses. Pleated and netting fabrics were used a lot.

Due to the colors and the oversized shapes not a lot of the designs felt very feminine, yet they all had something special.

The coats in this collection will probably sell the best. And since there were a lot of them Yamamoto needn’t worry about the future of his brand. With more collections like this the Japanese brand will surely survive.
