Again, Thomas Maier proved he is a clever designer and a good judge regarding what men want: good quality clothes that bring out the little boy in them.
In his fall 2010 collection for Bottega Veneta Maier played with proportions, colors (dark blues, purple and red) and he took the outspoken rockabilly-style as his inspiration. That means: formal menswear mixed with jeans with a rebellious touch and well groomed models.
Catwalktrends ss2010: really tiny bags

Tiny bags definitely seem to be a trend on the runway. Yet they are very unpractical, because there aren’t many items that will fit in these bags.
But can we still call it a bag? Most versions we saw on the runway looked more like extraordinarily shaped purses, if you ask us.
The bags may be unpractical, yet they created some funny looks on the catwalk. Extremely tiny were the bags in the Anteprima, Blugirl, Bottega Veneta, Etro, DSquared, Fendi and Moschino fashion show. .
Most original were the Fendi bag with spikes, the pink bag form Gianfranco Ferré, the wooden ‘bag frame’ from Stella McCartney and the silk heart shaped bag from Moschino.
Unfortunately you’d have to keep most of these tiny bags in your hand all evening, but do they look cute!
Trends ss2010: men in red
When we look at the menswear collections for spring/summer 2010 one thing immediately catches our attention: together with black, white and beige we see lots of bright colors.
Blue, red and purple dominated the new collections, especially the ones by Bottega Veneta, CP Company, Dirk Bikkembergs, Armani and Ferragamo. At Ungaro the models wore lots of pink.
Since we saw mostly red in the spring/summer collection, let’s focus at that. It came by in dozens of different shades. At Armani, Ferragamo and Gaultier the red tended towards orange. At Lanvin and Emporio Armani a deep red prevailed. One of Paul Smith’s models was totally covered in red, including his shoes.
Many red coats passed by. A few in leather (Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Ferragamo, Iceberg), some trenchcoats (Paul Smith, Trussardi) and several jackets (Gucci, Bikkembergs, Bottega Veneta).
With so many shades of red there will surely be one that matches your skin tone. So no one has an excuse not to follow this red color trend next season.

In a serene and beautifully judged collection done almost entirely in shades of cream, Tomas Maier put the individualistic way we use clothes at the center of his thought process. “I think of it as a collaboration with women,” he said to style.com. “The clothes are meant to be a backdrop, a blank canvas, so the wearer can play with color and accessories to change the look and make it her own.” The concept of the neutral background came when he saw a group of children being dropped off at a karate class in Florida, where he lives: “I liked the look of the canvas, and that became my color card—white, cream, straw. And the idea of the soft belt.” Et voila, another beautiful collection was born.
Trends ss2010: step by step
For some models walking the runway was a tough job in the past fashion weeks. Of course the shoes were to blame. Not only were they high as ever, they also had the craziest shapes. They seemd somewhat inspired by clogs and that made them look rather clumsy. The most outstanding examples of this ‘clog-shoe’ were those of Alexander McQueen. He showed some great fashion forward ones, which were no less than twelve inches high. With reptile prints they looked futuristic and animalistic at the same time. Passing by to the beat of Lady Gaga’s new song they indeed looked rather Gaga to us. Yet they might become a huge hit. At least McQueen wasn’t the only designer with clog-shoes in his show. Celine, Dior, DSquared, Givenchy, Bottega Veneta and Ferré showed some clog-variations as well. And not to forget Louis Vuitton and Chanel. Their Swedish clog-like shoes will probably become the most copied of all next spring. (Tess van Daelen)
Trends ss2010: Eyecatching sportswear
Next spring will be great fun for the sporty types. A number of brands introduced some remarkable sportswear. Eyecatching were the pieces Asish showed during London Fashion Week. Most of the sportswear he came up with was sequined from the bottom to the top. What a great way to distract your opponents at the footballfield! The sequins formed the image of a football and that of Mona Lisa. The Nike slogan ‘Just do it’ also appeared in sequins. At the fashion show for Hermès the runway was changed into a tenniscourt. The models wore classic sportswear in blue or red with white lines. Those lines seemed to be the new element in sportswear since Marc Jacobs, Bottega Veneta and Lacoste used them too. Alexander Wang showed some great (‘timeless’, as he calls it himself) sportswear. His grey sweater with brown suede shoulders looked refreshing. Most designers completed their looks with a sporty headband or a cap. Playing sports was never this much fun! (Tess van Daelen)
Bottega Veneta Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010
Tomas Maier chose white as his main color for the ss2010-collection. Only some details came in yellow, brown, purple, blue or green. The models wore kimono-looking canvas tops and playful strapless dresses. Some showed loose fitting pants with corsets, jackets and draped one-shoulder items. Dresses with ruches and a ribbon around the waist looked elegant. The collection looked very easy to wear as the silouet was never tight fitted. Every look was finished off by a small white headband. The models walked in shoes with laces above the ankle or sandals. Every now and then they carried the famous Bottega Veneta bags from woven leather, in different shades. At the end of the show the white dresses, headbands and big bags were replaced by colorful evening gowns and small clutches. (Tess van Daelen)
Bottega Veneta Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010
It was all about color and fabrics at Bottega Veneta, starting with a little hint of purple and fuchsia in a simple scarf and ending in full color. This collection had everything a man wants: soft cashmere sweaters, comfy trousers, a good suit and enough to keep it personal and quiet. The colors made us feel happy – it suits well with all the green notes we spotted in other collections.
