Monique Collignon Couture Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam SS16

Dutch designer Monique Collignon and her deep-fried pizza food regime, it was the talk of the day as run-up for her ‘ultimate comeback’ on the Amsterdam catwalk. But not tonight. The front row was packed with fancy ladies, some famous faces emerged tentively towards their seats and some journalists were patiently waiting while staring at the huge backdrop. One that was soon to be filled with close-ups of mesmerizing earthy tones and minerals, an interesting starting point for a collection called ‘Earth Delight’. It was yet another show that was a shoutout to nature’s most hidden treasures but in a theatrical eighties meets Jerry Hall manner. Big, bigger, biggest.

The show was opened by Dutch model Ovo Drenth, slowly and confident walking down the runway wearing a blossoming black dress covered with lots of shimmerings. Soon followed by more floor-sweeping dresses, fancy skirts and classic silhouettes. All ultra feminine, alternating between soft lace, embroideries and a sea of ruffles. Not to mention the Swarovski-embellishments, sometimes all over, sometimes as small details. The contrast of lightness and weight was as well in the fabrics as in the colours. The final look was a huge white dress with sparkling details, that made some women trembling from excitement.

The clothes may not be very appealing and affordable for the regular fashion crowd, but it’s exactly what a real Collignon woman would ask for. And as Collignon summoned us to take good care of our planet and stop the pollution, what better army could she wish for than this impressive line-up of stunning ladies.

Jef Montes presents Velero

Jef Montes presented his third collection VELERO  in Amsterdam yesterday. Again, modern high tech fabrics and expressive silhouettes merged into a spectacular collection with a leading role for water and light.
For VELERO Jef Montes got inspired by the construction of sailing boats and the materials they are built with. Montes used fibres as glassfibre, nylon, carbon, silk wool, cotton and viscose. The silhouettes were based on the contours of ships and the way they were draped around the body symbolized the constant fight between nature and machine. The collection was a collaboration between various artists and product designers.  Jef Montes translated the work of artist Simone Albers to graphic colorblocks and into textile developed with  Textile Lab of the Museum for Textiles in Tilburg. At this lab he also developed a material build with four ‘layers’  nylon and cotton that reveals sailinpatterns once the light is projected. Product designer
Lennart Bras developed the material for shoes and the fabric that is used in the first look of the show is an abstract pattern of product designer Eva Bloemsma. The pattern was fixed into the fabric by a chemical process.
The show was followed by an exhibition.

During the fashion weeks we refresh our streetwear posts regularly. We don’t judge, we’re not the fashion-police, we just enjoy fashion and your own personal style. Next stop: Mereceds Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam fall/winter 2015.

MBFWA This was Day 4

It looks like Day 4 of MBFWA was all about hair. Looking at the shows of l’Oreal Professionel and Dennis Diem the haircrews did an amazing job. Other interesting shows were Mirte van Wijngaarden, Army of Me and Samaranda Almasan.

Maison the Faux Catwalk Fashion Show MBFWA FW2015

Backstage turned frontstage this afternoon at Maison the Faux. A surprising switch that had us all in doubt for a second. Was this really the main show? Yet anyone who knows Maison the Faux also knows you’re in for a treat with this label. They’ve spiced things up with their previous Amsterdam fashion week shows and didn’t disappoint today either. It was a backstage like we know it, although perhaps slightly less hectic. Models waiting in line, photographers taking beauty shots, it was all there. In the middle of the show area clothings racks and dressers (in tracksuits) took care of the model dressing part, while half naked models were lounging on some of the graphic, black and white sofas placed around it. How bizarre! The clothes itself again were so wrong it almost seemed right. Bold prints, oversized silhouettes, sheerness as well as (faux) fur. ‘Faux’ was written on many of the pieces, like a luxury brand’s logo, and even could be seen on the models’ faces. The overall style seemed sporty and definitely a little crazy. A small selection of pieces was available online, immediately after the show. C’est Vrai ou C’est FAUX?

Tonight was Zheng Zheng Li’s Amsterdam Fashion Week debut. And the Chinese-born designer, who studied in Paris and achieved his Masters in Arnhem certainly wowed the Dutch audience. He presented a flawless menswear collection which had all the right ingredients in it. Musthaves like the white shirt, black pants, blue suit, grey cardigan and waistcoats all made their way onto the runway. All still perfectly wearable pieces, but with a surprising touch. Like gold details, baroque prints, an extra belt, a subtle slit or a certain piece done in a few inches shorter than you’d expect. Polka dot socks and shoes added to the uniqueness of the looks as did animal masques on the back of the models’ heads. Such a joy to watch.

Aziz Bekkaoui Catwalk Fashion Show MBFWA FW2015

In times like these, it doesn’t always feel right to just show a collection of pretty clothes only the wealthiest people can afford. Sometimes, you need to be able to make a statement with fashion too. Yesterday Edwin Oudshoorn already presented us with his torn down world instead of his usual happy ever after. Today Aziz Bekkaoui had something to say too. He seemed to be making a political statement by using what looked like a Palestine flag print as the main print in his fall/winter collection. On socks, skirts, tops, blouses, dresses, beanies and backpacks; it popped up everywhere! Aziz’ message was all about love; a little reminder of what life should actually be all about. The show opened with the sound of a heartbeat, Aziz named the collection United Hearts Now and used heart shaped prints, embroideries and necklaces on most of his looks. Now his message might be political, the show had a cheerful feeling nevertheless. Old school hip hop songs by DJ Manga and the models’ funky styling made sure of that. As did the bright pops of color. Green, red, burgundy, pink and blue were all in the mix with the black & white graphic (pied de poule and jacquard) prints. Glass and wool, cashmere and silk. Urban danced with classic. Loose shorts, polo shirts, chunky knits, short sleeved vests and the models’ cool attitude brought everything together. Oh and not to mention those white sneakers. The fashion world wouldn’t be the same without those and Aziz knows all about it.
