As fog appeared from the sides of the runway and plastic bags whirled all over it the first MaryMe Jimmy Paul a white and gold winter princess (Valentijn de Hingh) made her way onto it. She wore a structured, quilted golden dress, a white furry coat and sneakers. In each of her hands she carried a plastic bag filled with what looked like boiling nitrogen. The idea behind the smoke everywhere? E-cigarette brand Jiksu was the sponsor of the whole event. They made it possible for MaryMe Jimmy Paul to introduce their sporty, stiff sweaters and bring on their fluffy, fur skirts. Their colorful hooded coats, their full on printed and very colorful ensembles, their ripped leather pants and their short haired motor jackets. Not to mention the leather gloves, the black wigs and the sheer backpacks that completed the party. Who the two geniuses behind this all are, we will never really know. Like at their previous fashion show the label’s founders decided not to make an appearance or take a simple bow at the end of the show. Instead their PR ladies walked the runway and gladly took the big applause on their behalf.

After watching a kaleidoscopic video with a virtual model talking about ‘little fluffy clouds’ and a moving backdrop Jacob Kok sent his models out on the LAB runway. They appeared sportive and modern in their structured, colorful pieces. They sported braided buns, backpacks and platform sneakers, details that gave away Koks eye for styling and accessories. Their hands in the pockets gave the girls a streetwise attitude. The link between fashion and technology, in which lays Koks focus, was visible in every single look. From the metallic sneakers to the shiny cream dress and some of the outstanding jewelry pieces. A short collection for Jacob Kok, but it impressed nevertheless.

Lilian Driessen is an experienced designer but hardly known in the Netherlands. It was the first time she presented her collection Atelier MariaLux at FashionWeek Amsterdam, and she made a serious impression. A live band performed during the presentation and was also part of it, since the singers were dressed in her vintage-like, elegant clothes. The collection was all about memories and feelings translated in creations with soul.
Kathryn Milan Fashion Week Amsterdam FW2014
After Francisco van Benthum we jumped into our Mercedes and drove up to the city center of Amsterdam. There fashion label Kathryn Milan, a newcomer on the official schedule, presented it’s f/w collection. Since it was a client show instead of a press show the vibe was totally different from that at the Gashouder (the official show venue). Dapper gents and well dressed, prosperous ladies attended the collection presentation. They adoringly glazed at the label’s silk and satin creations (blouses, dresses and even a jumpsuit), coats with leather details (on the collars and the cuffs), tweed skirt suits and all kinds of glittery embroideries. Models got an elegant, wealthy allure through their perfect updos and chic jewelry. The closing black evening gown with an outstanding beaded collar truly was a show piece on the womenswear side, as a double breasted, woolen trenchcoat was a definite showstopper on the label’s menswear department. Designer David L. Turner gracefully walked his catwalk during the finale of the show, receiving a big applause from his attending loyal clientele.
Jef Montes Fashion Week Amsterdam FW2014
A burning, spinning communion candle as a backdrop; Artez graduate Jef Montes again (like with his 2012 graduation collection) seemed inspired by religion. He immediately caught everyone’s attention as he kicked off his show with a model pouring two ‘candles’ of indigo paint over her white dress. What followed was a mix of blue and white wet-looking creations with matching head pieces. Impressive were the shiny designs, created out of satin duchesse and hand painted fibre glass. And even though the fit of the designs (robes) was loose and structured beautiful, colorful, cross-shaped embroideries added a touch of refinement to the Illuminosa collection. The first official fashion week collection for Jef and most certainly not the last one.

Atelier MariaLux is the name of the label of designer Lilian Driessen. Her Fall/Winter 2014 collection was inspired by Coco Chanel and her opinion regarding feelings and dressing according to that. The most aspiring quote in the press-release was: “You only live but once so you might as well be amusing”.
The collection had a slightly vintage feeling with classics like the deux pieces, smoking-costumes and unstructured dresses. The vibe was casual, luxurious and elegant with a bohemien touch.
A live-band with different singers and musicians played a new version of Cry me a River, an evergreen. To seal a good memory of the show Lilian Driessen gave all guests a sample of her perfume. She surely succeeded!
