Backstage at Tony Cohen AFW FW2012
Backstage models were dressed in beautiful clothes for the Tony Cohen fashion show. Make-up looked elegant but also tough and punky and matched perfectly with the jewel-tones of the dresses.

It was a big day at the Amsterdam Fashion Week yesterday. Although she was supposed to arrive late in the afternoon, everybody was obsessed with princess Máxima’s visit at The Green Fashion Competition. They almost forgot there was much more to see. We saw interesting shows of Jacob Kok and Marloes Blaas, and Alexia van Engelen choose a wonderful, atmospheric venue to present her Sage & Ivy-collection.
The Cast-Iron-show was a spectacle that closed the third day of Amsterdam Fashion Week.
Backstage at Sage & Ivy FW2012
Sage & Ivy picked a wonderful location to present her fall winter collection, the atelier of Anouk Beerents – where she restores antique mirrors. Take a look backstage.
It’s All in The Family: Elise Kim
This edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week we focus at designers and their biggest supporters: their family. Where would they be without their mom, dad, brother(s), sister(s)and or grandma’s? They help finishing their designs, they drive the car, they cheer them up and cry emotional tears. The third family we would like to present Elise Kim with her mother and father in law.
SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam FW2012

Yet again Truus and Riet Spijkers chose a strong woman as the inspiration for their new show. This time they were inspired by Bonnie, from the thirties crime couple Bonnie and Clyde. Faye Dunaway, the actrice who played Bonnie in 1967, was their muse for this collection.
Designs were feminine with a boyish twist. There were perfect pleated pants, oversize knitted cardigans, simple dresses with an accentuated waist. The designs came in multiple shades and prints, which came together in an art-deco way. The palette included shades like light grey, blue, camel and coral. Prints were made out of graphic patterns, small pistols and black checks.
Looks were styled off by berets and high heels with light glittering socks. Now that’s how you make crime sexy!
Backstage at AFW FW2012 Individuals
Take a look backstage at the Individuals-show which was dark and grungy. The students of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute got inspired by today’s world crisis, with protest-movements like Occupy. Functionality and survival are the main factor in this collection. The styling, accessoiries and hair/make-up tell it all.
Dolce & Gabbana Catwalk Fashion Show Milan FW2011

After a few strong menswear-seasons with the focus at Italian sartorial craftmanschip, Dolce & Gabbana moved on. They looked at Britain and 80’s style-icon Bryan Ferry, who’s slick style of shiny suits inspired a whole generation of young men back then. I guess Bryan Ferry was happy he grew out of that 80’s style of short, slightly squared jackets, wide lapels and tapered pants while watching the show in a slim suit and accompanied by two of his sons (who looked very smart too). It’s a big step from the handsome and streamlined Italian style we’re used to see at Dolce & Gabbana.
But maybe it’s just a matter of time. The look must seem bright new to a younger generation fed up with skinny pants and jackets. The new silhouette is more square and non fitted, jackets are much shorter and pants got low crotches. For the streetwise styling the designduo looked at British ska’s, with their hats, black and white, suspenders, short pants and shoes. The formal suit was mixed, a jacket with jeans, the pants with striped sweater, velvet with denim, faux fur with wool, pinstripes with pied de poule. There was even a hint of color next to the black and grey, red and bordeaux played a major role. The collection deserved the name Eccentric Tailoring – only for those who dare.
