Which crew are you? M-PR at AIFW

M-PR is the official public relations-team of the Amsterdam International Fashion Week and therefore not to miss. Without this fashion & lifestyle press-office – located in Amsterdam –  the pressroom would be a mess and things wouldn’t work that smooth. They are also the constant factor behind one of the AIFW-partners Bart Maussen.

Roya Hesam & ZEM – LAB Catwalk Fashion Shows SS2012

Thursday is one of the busiest days of the whole Fashion Week with a lot of LAB shows. We started off with ZEM and Roya Hesam, two upcoming designers, who both presented 10 looks.

ZEM – menswear

Designer Samira Algoe based her second AIFW- collection on classic beachwear for men. She used sun, see and beach as the inspiration for her clean and well tailored looks. Most items were made out of two parts (and two or more shades). The sheer silk cotton and the ultra-short pants appeared a little feminine, but overall the clothes felt pretty wearable. Sunny accessories were gave the collection a nice little extra.

Roya Hesam – womenswear

Roya showed her minimalistic but very feminine collection Facing Skills. She used airy fabrics and soft shades. Her dresses, jumpsuits and pants looked elegant and smooth, perfect for summer. There was a little boob flash here and there, but that didn’t spoiled the fun.

Frequin Producties (the company of Louis and Barbara Frequin) is another crew behind the scenes at AIFW. A crew we can’t do without anymore, because they make the live streaming video happen!  Without them it wouldn’t be possible to follow this fashionweek behind your computer.

Which crew are you? Team Peter Stigter at AIFW

This edition of AIFW we would like to introduce the different crews behind the scenes. Without them this fashionweek would not work that smooth. No music, no food, no live stream video, no press-releases. Let’s start with our own crew: Team Peter Stigter.

Jan Taminiau Couture Collection Paris FW2012

Dutch designer Jan Taminiau seemed to be the first designer to kick off Haute Couture week in Paris, unofficially that is. While everybody was awaiting the Dior couture-show (is there already a new designer?), Jan prepared his collection quietly. Nature Extends is the name of the collection, that was an unusual mix of cork and rich, flowing materials like chiffon. The fabrics and materials were sculpted into long, dramatic high collared dresses and tight suits. Colors changed from silver sequins into gray, taupe, brown/yellow.

Raf Simons Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2012

Raf Simons’ own ss2012 collection was well balanced. A tailored black suit was the canvas on which the Belgian designer build his minimalistic vision, with roomy coats (and some tunics)  in mismatched checks or pastel-colors, sleeveless leather T-shirts, sleeveless knits with a small flower-print or shirts in contrasting black & white.

Especially the colorful checks added an upbeat character to this strict and minimal collection.

Kris van Assche continued to celebrate the art of tailoring at the Dior Homme-collection. The ss2012 collection looked plain & minimal but oh so luxurious.

Shirts and tapered trousers came in natural linen and were trimmed in lambskin. Trenches appeared in powdery silk taffeta. Jackets were the stars of this precise and youthful collection, from handsome double-breasted numbers to roomy shirt-like and tunic styles, often closed at the throat and flaring open. The black hats. shoes and leather wristbands were the only contrasting details.

John Galliano Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2012

What happens when you take the living soul out of a designer-collection is that the format becomes visible in every detail. And that’s what’s going on at the house of John Galliano right now.  It’s courageous of Bill Gayten to take the bow after the show, but it all looked  forced. Gone are the theatrics, but the artsy types in military jackets, David Hockney clones and rakish rockers stayed since the Swinging Sixties and Pop Art were the sources of inspiration.

All the ingredients of a Galliano-collection were there. The long jackets, funny accessories, slim suits in gray silk or crinkled white linen. The message was at the end of the show, when two mustachioed Galliano- doppelgangers took their turns. They surely do miss him.
