Trend Report FW2011: Soft & Smooth

It’s goodbye to the pointy shoulders that have been one of the biggest trends over the past few years. This fall the silhouette becomes much more smooth. Especially in many jackets were seeing the rounded sleeves. Burberry, Loewe, Yves Saint Laurent and Jil Sanders showed some amazing examples of that.
At Stella McCartney the rounded shapes were everywhere in the collection, a stiffened golden dress being the most extravagant of all pieces.
At Chanel it were the shoulders that were more puffy than ever. Giambattista Valli, Lanvin, Mary Katrantzou and Jil Sander used the circle-shape in their skirts.
It might take a while before this trend is adapted by high street fashion stores, but if you wanna be one of the first: the oversized soft silhouette is the way to go!
You’ll find some inspiration in the gallery below.
Trend Report FW2011: Forties Fab

Ladies, pay attention! For this year’s fall the hemlines have dropped a few inches again. This means dresses and (pencil) skirts will have to be worn slightly below the knee. We go back to the conservative forties.
But don’t get scared you can still keep it sexy by opting for high slits or sheer blouses and tops. A modern twist can also come from unexpected color combinations (like we saw at Jonathan Saunders) or the choice of materials (Louis Vuitton). And especially if you style your look in the way Frida Gianinni styled her models (gloves, hats, small belt, glasses) you can do no wrong.
It’s the forties, but then sexier!
Trend Report FW2011: Shine like a Citrine!

From gold to ochre and everything in between; yellow shades dominated the international catwalks. These tones too seemed very much inspired by jewels. Next to ruby, sapphire and amethyst, citrine looks were presented as well.
It looked elegant on some gorgeous evening dresses (Bottega Veneta, Valentino), but just as sophisticated on short little dresses (Lanvin, Dior). At Gucci the citrine was mixed with red and purple to create a high class fall look.
Check out some of the citrine looks we spotted on the runway.
Trend Report FW2011: Prints Charming

The best way to wear a print item coming autumn is to mix it with another print. Even if you suppose two prints will clash, wear them together. The crazier and brighter the prints, the better.
Whether if it’s letters (D&G), flowers (Betsey Johnson), geometric prints (Hermes) or something abstract (Alberta Ferretti).
Forget color coordinating and just go crazy on the new season’s prints and patterns.
Trend Report FW2011: Amethyst-tones

For fall/winter 2011/2012 we’ve moved on from the bright color blocking looks to jewel tones. Still very strong and colorful, but with a little bit more warmth and sophistication in it.
Amethyst, sapphire, emerald, ruby, garnet and citrine are some of the jewel-inspired shades you’ll see this fall. Especially the amethyst colors rocked the international catwalks at Gucci, D&G, Alberta Ferretti and Versace.
Combine this shade with other rich colors and you’ll look & feel bejeweled!
Afraid you might end up looking like a purple Teletubby? Just go for a purple accessory like a clutch bag or a small belt.
Trend Report FW2011: Oh my Tartan!

If the winter of 2011/2012 is going to be a cold one, these tartan pieces (made from thick wool) sure will keep you warm. Besides the tartan print can be combined with other fashion pieces very easily.
For instance: mix a large tartan scarf with denim pants (Dsquared2), combine a pair woolen tartan trousers with a leather jacket (Etro) or opt for a hounds’ tooth skirt and a sheer blouse (Salvatore Ferragamo). Black & white (Yves Saint Laurent, black & yellow (Burberry) or black & red (Moschino Cheap & Chic). The tartan can be very versatile.
If you don’t wanna go all the way, just choose a great tartan scarf. No matter how you wear it; you’ll definitely have fun with it.
Trend Report FW2011: Sixties Style

After the super feminine fifties and the playful seventies, fashion has now landed back in the sixties. This means: two piece ensembles, miniskirts, high boots, simplicity, color and eye for details (like large pockets and buttons).
Going on a sixties shopping spree? Take some inspiration from models like Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy. Copy their looks and give it your own MODern twist (forget the short hair and wear heels instead of flats).
Opt for thick fabrics that hold structure to create the ultimate sixties look. And don’t go to far with the mini-skirt tough; too short still is not very classy.
Check out the gallery below to see how designers like Burberry, Prada, Calvin Klein and Bottega Veneta interpreted the sixties in their fall collections.

Zeeman / Frank Catwalk Fashion Show AIFWSS2012

Saterday afternoon the Zuiveringshal at the Amsterdam Fashion Week was filled with fashion people. Everyone was anxious to see the very first collection of this ‘new fashion label’ named Frank. Some people heard it was a mix between ready to wear and haute couture, others didn’t have a clue.
As the first looks came up on the runway we saw some very wearable designs. A shirt dress, a leather jacket, a pleated skirt, a trenchcoat, a pair of leather pants (with lots of zippers); easy to wear we would call it.
In between those items there were a few shiny evening dresses in shades like turquoise and ochre or gray and pink. And the last look of the collection was a bridal gown with the name Frank on it.
After that blue and yellow lights were projected on to the backdrop. Some items were highlighted with texts like “Now low priced” and we then started to get a feeling….
As the letters ZEEMAN appeared everyone reacted surprised.
Frank was actually ZEEMAN and nobody knew. The people from ZEEMAN kept everything a secret, only five people of the organization knew they were going to hold a show. What a surprise and what a guerrilla move! ZEEMAN rocks Amsterdam Fashion Week!
Hunkemoller Catwalk Fashion Show AIFW SS2012

The Hunkemoller lingerie show was just the perfect evening show. The mood was right, the audience was into it and the show was just one big party.
The show was divided in two parts; it started with lingerie and during the second half the new beachwear collection was shown.
The lingerie show was opened by a sexy bride in a seductive off white design. The start of a series of bridal lingerie collections that will follow in the Hunkemoller collections from 2012 on.
After the bridal wear the themes Golden Touch, Modern Brigitte Bardots, Flowers Everywhere, Hot Pink and Oriental Beauty followed. All designs looked super sensual. Rich fabrics, delicate embroideries, the right color combinations and perfect styling made all the girls look like supermodels.
The smiling, blinking and blowing kisses in the air even made the audience more enthusiastic. And model Jazz, who has legs for days, got a round of applause just for her appearance on the catwalk.
After the last lingerie model had left the runway a group of drummers came on stage and held their own little party. Then it was time for the swimwear. Models with wet hair and bronzed faces strutted the runway in swimwear from themes like Tropical Fever, Copacabana Beach, Shapes in Kobalt & Macramé, Etnic Animals, Fashion Jungle and Glits & Glamour Finale.
All designs looked playful and sexy and as Beyonce’s Run the world was played and Kim Feenstra lead the other models on the runway the party was on. All girls in the audience must have seen something they like and all guys must have had a night to remember…
