Victoria Beckham Catwalk Fashion Show New York FW2015

While working on her fall collection Victoria Beckham had been listening closely to her London store customers. Not minimalism and modernism alone were key terms of her collection; Victoria brought sexy back into her designs. The extremely popular, sexy dresses she presented at the beginning of her career in fashion, that is. Designs perhaps closer to Victoria’s, very much adored, personal style. Figure hugging, but – created out of the loveliest, most luxury fabrics– extra classy. Midi was another key word as culottes, dresses, skirts and coats all ended mid calf, forming a perfect match with the stompy high-heeled calf boots. Black, white, grey will be fall’s strongest color options, presented in the mix with a chic pop of olive green, yellow and orange. Cashmere tops and woolen bottoms ; clothes were stiff and structured, but kept their elegance, gracefully moving along with the models every move. Worn in a careless, effortless, yet sophisticated kind of way, that is inherent to Victoria’s personal way of dressing. As well as to that of her family. The Beckham family, which was complete and represented front row. Stylish, cool and well behaved (no tantrum involved). Victoria knows a thing or two about class..

Alexander Wang Catwalk Fashion Show New York FW2015

Alexandser Wang presented a totally black collection, well almost.  Technically the lineup was not totally black — there were two ivory fisherman sweaters worn with stonewashed jeans, two red plaids and a few metallic mesh getups. The rest was pitch black and hardcore, framed within the street section of heavy metal.
It was a brave collection. References to metal abounded in the very sophisticated construction of the clothes. Severe, mannish tailoring of cropped pants and harsh jackets had pocket chains made of little silver balls that also trimmed coat collars and dresses with panels. The same pattern recurred on handbags. Quilted pieces looked made from luxe packing blankets  while silk pajamas and bathrobes reflected the lush side of Goth.

All of the details, the design equivalent of puns, were part of Wang’s playful spirit, yet the attitude of the show was seriously aggressive. The models stomped out in extreme platform lug-sole combat boots with wet stringy hair covering their zombie faces. Two fitted velvet crop tops, worn with skirts that swished with silver fringe, were womanly in a witchy way, but there was not a soft side to this collection. Wang was unflinching in his point of view and there’s a lot to be said for such conviction.

Thinking of glamour-dressing to the max, but with style and class – you had to think of Oscar de la Renta. The American designer – born in Puerto Rico – died october 21st at the age of 82.

His career began in the 1950s in Spain and sprawled across the better living rooms of Paris and New York. De la Renta was the last survivor of a generation of bold, all-seeing tastemakers.  Though ill with cancer for close to eight years, Oscar de la Renta was resilient. During that period his business grew by 50 percent, to $150 million in sales, as his name became linked to celebrity events like the Oscars. Amy Adams, Sarah Jessica Parker and Penélope Cruz were among the actresses who wore his dresses. Recently his biggest thing was to make the ivory tulle gown that Amal Alamuddin wore to wed George Clooney in Venice.

Oscar de la Renta achieved fame as a couturier to socialites and as a red-carpet king. He also dressed four American first ladies, but it was Hollywood glamour that defined him for a new age and a new customer.

Jesus del Pozo Catwalk Fashion Show New York Womenswear SS2015

Creative Director Josep Font of the Spanish house Delpozo played with volume, proportion and illusion. He began with exaggerated sportswear silhouettes: the widest of red culottes paired with a white wrapped bandeau, and the fullest of skirts, beautifully done in a white, navy and green midi strapless dress with a white shirt underneath. He then shifted gears into more sculptural pieces inspired by the land art of Nils-Udo, including a yellow top with an exaggerated peplum and a sculpted flower on the bodice, and a miniskirt with origamilike panels.
He also paid homage to the 19th-century glass creations of Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka with a green tulle shirtdress embellished with seashells.

Michael Kors Catwalk Fashion Show New York Womenswear SS2015

Michael Kors’s collection can be described as American optimism, feminine but also rugged and sporty.

Seethrough such skirts played a role in Kors’ prevailing silhouette — waist-centric with a full skirt that indeed hints at the Fifties without ever making the trip to retro. The polite transparency recurred as well, wearability achieved when paired with crisp, elongated skirts.
Flowers abounded — pristine daisy appliqués on all-white looks; a camellia print on a pajama; big geraniums embroidered on indigo mikado. Kors delivered on the sporty side of his equation with cropped chinos, one pair worn with a shirt and gray cashmere pullover with matching corsage; strong outerwear, and his grounded footwear. This included a rugged sandal set on a prim, low heel. The style’s name, at least on Sunday morning: the Jesus Kitten.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Catwalk Fashion Show New York Womenswear SS2015

Energy — the driving force of the planet, whether it unites, divides, uplifts or negates. In a matter of three seasons, Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley have infused Marc by Marc Jacobs with the kind of charge that people seek out. Young, fierce and intense, the powerful attitude established for fall gained momentum for spring.

‘Be who you are’ would be the mantra of the spring Marc by Marc girl. Wearing a cropped T-shirt layered under a plastic, pastel-blue polka-dot bandeau and matching skirt, herhair twisted into a mohawk of mini-buns, she would be the confident nonconformist at the party — intimidating but probably a lot of fun.
