If you know Italian men, you know how important their mamma is to them and the whole family. So after Dolce and Gabbana presented their ode to family life during the mens collections, Sunday’s Viva la Mamma show made sense. Model mommy´s and their mini me´s strutted the catwalk in the most romantic, feminine and typical Italian (Sicilian) creations. Model Bianca Balti even paraded around with her pregnant belly. A rare playful and lovable fashion scene, which made hearts beat faster and eyes tear up in the audience. One way to win over the critics, but the clothes didn´t disappoint either (even though the designers stuck to their save, successful, signature style). Lace dresses, touches of fur and midi lengths, classical collars, corset shaped bodices were all in the mamma mix. Red roses played a crucial part, popping up as prints and as embroideries, even real ones carried in bags. New were the more lighthearted pieces that had colorful kids drawings printed on them. A strapless white gown perhaps was inspired by Angelina Jolies wedding gown last year, which she let her kids draw on. Paired with crystal crowns worthy of a queen the designers made their point stressing the importance of a mother figure. Yummy mummies whose hearts Dolce and Gabbana certainly have won over after this show. A smart mamma move!
