Streetwear Trend: Fasten your waistbelt

For the guys who are in touch with their feminine side or the lads who are man enough to handle it the accentuated waist is all the rage now. Trench coats, winter coats and even long sweaters now look their best when their ‘belted’. A small leather belt or just a tied robe will do the job.
But there are other ways to focus on the waist, of course. We shot some hipster boys sporting high waisted jeans and bermudas (with their shirts tucked in) looking quite refreshing as well.
Not only on the streets, but on the catwalks too this waisted look was hot. Will you try it?

Not able to choose between a turtle neck, a bow tie and a shirt? Just wear them all at once. According to our latest streetstyle shots it’s the latest trend. The best dressed street chic men wore thick colorful turtlenecks under their suits and overcoats. While those thin basic black (and even red) turtlenecks popped up from under fully buttoned shirts (Ermenegildo Zegna, Neil Barrett and Roberto Cavalli too introduced their version of the layered turtleneck + shirt look)Not a bad idea at all. Especially on those cold days when just a cotton shirt is not enough. It gives any look an instant sense of style and sophistication. So study our gallery and go try this trend for yourself!

Trend Fall/Winter 2012/2013: Cap Chic

This fall you no longer have to be a skater or high school kid to be able to wear a cap. A casual suit or a bodyfit turtleneck go pretty well with this type of headgear too. Just look at how designers presented this trend on the runway. Mixed with a slim fit shirt in matching shade at Bikkembergs, combined with a navy green turtleneck at Dior, worn in a more obvious way (with sweatpants) at Dsquared and paired up with a black suit at Acne. Leather or woolen caps add a richer feeling to the look. And men might not step into their Monday morning meeting wearing one of these, yet it´s perfect when stepping out of the office. Bad hair day covered and yes, you may, once in a while, wear it backwards!
Trend Fall/Winter 2012/2013: Divided
There’s only so many options to vary with a menswear wardrobe. Yet this season designers found a surprising way of spicing things up. Usual menswear suspects like the suit, the coat and the winter sweater were all made out of different parts. And though that is always the case with fashion pieces, this time all parts were clearly visible on the runway. Most designers worked pieces of leather into their looks. Like a piece of green leather on a Bottega Veneta suit, some crocodile leather on the top of a Calvin Klein sweater, leather sleeves (John Varvatos) and shoulders (Rick Owens, Yves Saint Laurent). Others mixed different types of wool, color and played with heavy and lighter fabrics. A fun way of mixing things up, especially with these thick winter pieces.
Trend Fall/Winter 2012/2013: Checkmate
Farmers, gentlemen and clowns; they all strutted the international catwalks sporting checks. Not your average black and white though; checks and tweeds came in unexpected colors and shapes. Tartan style at Van Beirendonck, Etro and Vivienne Westwood. Country inspired at Burberry and Zegna. Oversize at Browne and Yamamoto.
Opt for a head turning effect in a complete checked suit and matching hat like Browne, Von Assche and Yamamoto. Or work this trend more subtly in small checks (Burberry), perhaps just a modest touch of the print popping from under a sleeveless vest (Dsquared)? Working some tweed or checks into your wardrobe is never a bad idea. Besides, even a checked handkerchief can make you part of this gentlemen’s club.
Allan Vos & Nata Ryzh Amsterdam Catwalk Fashion Show SS2013

Allan Vos
Sexy, muscled men with smoky eyes walked today’s Allan Vos LAB show. Designs were tough and feminine at the same time. The show started with a tight fitting blue suit with black details and tiny yellow beads. He carried a matching handbag with a big A on it, like there were many more in the collection. What followed were extremely wide and extremely tight pants. The wide ones were pleated and seen from certain angles looked like skirts. The leggings were worn with boxers over it, highlighting the models crotch area. Leather jackets gave the collection a tough touch, while fur coats and tight tank tops (again with the letter A on it) had the opposite effect. Several variations of the white shirt (including one at floor length) looked interesting and a well tailored black jacket with red lining could just become the best sold item of the show.
Nata Ryzh
With her Amsterdam fashion week debut (Lola’s dream) today Natallya Ryzhykava’s showed graceful, elegant and colorful dresses. She presented a selection of beautiful designs done in the most gorgeous summer shades (turquoise, lavender, light yellow and salmon pink) made out of delicate silks. Girls looked flirty and fun in knee length draped dresses and matching clutches decorated with orchid and iris prints which gave the collection a ’70 touch. One of our favorite collections this week!
Sjaak Hullekes Amsterdam Catwalk Fashion Show SS2013
Japanese sounds and handmade fans on our chairs; let’s start the show!
Inspired by the prewar Japan and traditional Japanese music, Min‘yō (the name of the collection) representing the idea of continuation, Sjaak Hullekes presented a very well tailored, wearable and cohesive collection. To the sounds of a live cello in the corner of the catwalk (yet another form of live music this week) the male models appeared. They wore small fitting pleated pants, elegant shirts, non-lined safari jackets and handmade nature-inspired loafers. And Sjaak’s favorite piece, a terracotta shaded safari jacket with a collar and pockets in a contrasting fabric, indeed was one of the showstoppers of the collection.
Sjaak chose slightly smaller models this time and the fit of his clothing was smaller this time than with his previous collections. Yet still some of those tiny shorts fitted extremely tight, giving them a dandy, modern touch.
Everything looked really Eastern inspired. Like a collarless trenchcoat, a cardigan with standing collar, several sheers tops and a very small vintage navy fan print. Every piece of clothing was made in a slightly faded color (mint green orange, purple, olive, sand, terracotta) inspired by sepia pictures of people in Japan from before and after the industrialization.
Overall Sjaak showed a qualitative menswear collection, which his growing fan base will certainly appreciate. Let’s hope for his Amsterdam based fans it won’t take long until his new store opens.
