What better way to start the weekend than by watching a show filled with the work of young design talents? Friday afternoon we all gathered at de Nieuwe Kerk for the Lichting 2019 show. Fourteen graduates from seven different fashion academies in the Netherlands all showed their graduation collections in front of the Dutch fashion crowd and the international judges. Fourteen very diverse collections touching today’s themes. With his menswear collection entitled “Jack Saul”, inspired by the beauty en struggles of a gay prostitute from the Victorian time, designer Dylan Westerweel was chosen as this year’s winner. He won a money prize of 10.000 euro and will get his own fashion show during the next fashion week (as Ferry Schiffelers had this afternoon).

The winnner of last year’s Lichting show, Ferry Schiffelers, got the chance to show a full collection on Friday afternoon. A breathtakingly beautiful collection, which felt like a perfect fit with it’s show location (de Nieuwe Kerk). Layers and layers of tule, golden embroideries and a final dress completely made out of flowers. Elegant, delicate, graceful; what a delight to witness a show like this.

Ronald van der Kemp Amsterdam Fashion Week september 2019

Last night Ronald van der Kemp kicked off Amsterdam Fashion Week with an evening filled fashion program. Almost every room at the Moco Museum was given a RvdK touch with pop art dresses, installations, clothing racks and the designers sketches. After the fashion guests had taken a look inside, they were invited outside for a little chat and some cocktails. Then, around ten Ronald shook things up as he sent out his models. Not just on an ordinary runway though, they came in on motorcycles, bikes and a car. All glammed up, dressed to the nines (in his latest 100% sustainable collection), only to get an extra touch up at Moco’s garden party a bit later. As Bella Hay spun some Golden Earring records by her hitsinger dad (who was attending the party himself) the Dutch fashion crowd enjoyed a splendid first Amsterdam Fashion Week night outside.

Catwalk Fashion Trend FW2020: Terracotta

Earthy tones are making a huge comeback and so it comes as no surprise we’ve got terracotta shades all over our moodboard. It’s out with black, white and concrete (not really, but you get the idea) and in with the rusty/burnt brown hues. Seen at Chloé, Etro and Ferragamo. Worked out so stylish at Lanvin, Stella McCartney and Oscar de la Renta. And celebrated big time at Hermes. There’s no denying this fall/winter shade.

Nothing makes a picture more magical than a ray of sunlight. See how these couture show goers managed to perfectly catch that golden hour in Paris. A seventies color palette, statement silhouettes and that light… We figured these images needed their own shine.

Maximalist jewelry lovers can go all out this summer. Statement earpieces or should we say earparties are THE look of the high season. Just look at the models at Dolce & Gabbana, McQueen and Chanel. Those chandeliers can be so big they look somewhat intertwined with your necklace. No holding back now. Go big are go home. Enjoy the (ear)party!

Couture Streetwear Trend SS2019: Open Heels

July 23, 2019 by

Come winter, come summer. Of course you can wear your open heels any day of the year. But since high (extreme) temperatures are around the corner, best have them ready for a spin. Pink metallic, like the ones Nicole Richie was wearing at the Giambattista Valli show, a pair of turquoise stunners or just go with black or white. Is a monochrome heel a little too boring for you? Opt for a version with bows or ruffles just like the streetstyle stars in our gallery below.

Viktor & Rolf Haute Couture Paris SS2020

Last season’s collection was all over the internet and went endlessly viral on IG. Even till today, when Christina Aguilera arrived in that “Fuck this Im going to Paris”-dress, it’s a megahit. So how to follow up on a hyped up collection like that? A moody but later on light hearted collection entitled Spiritual Glamour shown at the Westin Hotel was the answer. “Our spell is to transform the feeling of doom about our environment into positive action,” said Horsting. And so the designers collaborated with textile artist Claudy Jongstra. A specific shade of Burgundian black made from botanical pigments turned up on coats and dresses. As the collection slowly became a little more cheerful towards the end when the sun, stars, flowers, butterflies and the usual bows brought some extra optimism. Architectonical shapes, patchwork details, funky hairdos (with little waves) and dramatic eye make-up turned each look into a showstopper. It might turn out as less of a hype perhaps, but with a stronger sustainability message this time. “Our models are like modern witches looking for a spell to make people look at fashion production and consumption differently”, Rolf said. Let’s hope the fashion system is not cursed.
