ARTITUDE Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week

A year ago Marissa Moll decided to start customizing leather fashion pieces. Today she presented her collection at fashion week and asked celebrity friends Fred van Leer, Holly Brood and Everon Jackson Hooi (among others) to walk in her show. They sported tough looking, street inspired looks featuring prints and paint of Batman, Mickey Mouse, did we spot a crying Kim Kardashian on the back of a jacket?, camouflage prints, dollar signs, words (“fake bitch”), stars and patches. Divided into four different categories (Galaxy, Jungle Fever, Mixed Prints and Rebellion Slogans) faux fur coats, leather jackets, jeans and sneakers in the mix with neon colors and animal prints followed up on each other. Items Marissa Moll is planning on selling in her own brand store she hopes to open in the near future. And that store might just open sooner than later, since those Artiitude jackets are selling up a storm.

Ajbilou | Rosdorff Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week

A zero waste collection is what Yasmina Ajbilou (24) and Lynn Kate Rosdorff (27) presented us with on Friday afternoon. The two young designers both had the same ambition: to do more than just design clothes and focus on sustainability. So they decided to team up and come up with a zero waste collection. “We wanted to show the beauty of things that are old and discharged, so our complete collection is made of second hand fabrics and waste materials. Literally everything we used can be found inside a garbage bin”, Rosdorff stated. Where Rosdorff focuses on the textile design Ajbilou is an expert in clothing design. For the past six weeks the duo has been working day and night to complete a collection of ten pieces. Ten pieces intended to blow everyone in the audience away and give them the same experience as if they’d just been on a worldwide journey. Inspired by Japan in 1185, a time when men and women lived in perfect harmony, the designers created menswear and womenswear looks in a palette of pastel hues. A hand painted bomberjack/kimono, a shiny wrap top, sheer dresses, oversized trousers ad a head scarf cinched the waist, to name a few of the items. Heavy eye brows, sporty shoes and shiny belts topped it all off. The designer names printed on the models’ backs. Names to remember..

Saskia ter Welle Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week Debute

The toughest pilot girls walked the Saskia ter Welle ruway this afternoon. Perhaps not quite the image we had in mind when we were heading to a show evolved around embroideries. But this surprise was for the better. Saskia, who previously worked with Dutch designers like Jan Taminiau, Ilja Visser and Monique Collignon and who experienced her fashion week debut, managed to keep things interesting with her story about understated glamour in a modern day fairy tale. With designs that formed a contrast between the raw and roughness of natural materials and the glamour that comes with beads, sequins and Swarovski crystals. Modern Japanese pattern techniques combined with richly decorated haute couture embroideries. A contrast that led to exciting combinations in this collection about wearable luxury. A collection built from craftsmanship as not only the embroideries but the clothing too hade been created by hand by Saskia and her team at their workspace in Doesburg. Most members of that team and countless of Saskia’s relatives seemed to be at the show today as some fanatic cheering and a round of applause awaited the designer after the finale.

Future Generations presents: Das Leben am Haverkamp Amsterdam Fashion Week

Season after season the LAB shows have amazed and surprised us and on the opening night of this fashion week Das Leben am Haverkamp was no exception. The fashion collective, formed by four young designers (Anouk van Klaveren, Christa van der Meer, Dewi Bekker en Gino Anthonisse) was both entertaining and fascinating. With four different presentations the young talents presented their vision on contemporary fashion and design.

Dewi Bekker kicked off with a colorful menswear collection with a focus on lines and fields, patent leather and semi formal influences (suit and tie). Her men wore gloves and masks which made the whole thing even more abstract.

Naked guys wrapped in shiny gold ribbon entered the stage as part of Anouk van Klaveren’s presentation. A mini show which purpose or message was hard to understand without any explanatory show notes. From a burka inspired look covered in shiny polka dots to a navy shaded heavy woolen suit, a black suit covered with pearl necklaces and a fluffy/fur inspired head to toe attire worn with gold colored slippers; not your every day outing, but food for thought for sure.

Gino Antonisse followed with his oriental inspired selection of art meets fashion looks. His models wore checked dress designs, oversized kimonos and suit jackets with long slits on the sides. On their hats they carried around enormous paper fans, which turned the looks into interesting pieces of art.

Christa’s fashion installations ended this LAB collaborative quite brilliantly. Out of six big white boxes appeared enormous blow up figures (the ones sometimes used on the side of the road to attract customers). For the occasion Christa dressed them up in colourful striped looks in which they were shaking their hats and arms around. Probably nothing trend setting, but the designers deserves some extra points for originality and the show’s fun factor.

Future Generation presents The Painting Amsterdam Fashion Week

White on white on white.. The dresscode for the second show of the opening night was white. Not for the audience though, for the models. With the idea that everyday is a fresh start nine young designers (Ailene van Elmpt, Johannes Offerhaus, Liesbeth Sterkenburg, Marlou Breuls, Merel van Glabbeek, Sunanda Koning, TRINHBECX, Yoko Maja and Zyanya Keizer) presented their work. A clean slate, a fresh start in which we can write out our dreams, color with hope and shape with belief. Apart from their color palette, which was obviously limited, curator Peter Leferink gave them ‘carte blanche’. This led to very personal stories told by the nine talents brought together by hope, faith and love. Menswear looks covered in text, pleated and lace up womenswear designs, delicate and dreamy designs with beaded/sequins detailing, impressive knitwear pieces (even for little girls), kinky patent leather looks, arty head to toe creations and a couple of twin fashion ensembles. A diversified show concluded by a colorfully dressed choir singing John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ to a peace sign backdrop. And everything just fell into place.

Martan Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week Debute

Thursday night, 7 o ‘clock and a Gashouder filled with a fashion minded crowd awaited the start of a brand new Amsterdam Fashion Week. Fashion label Martan had the honour to present it’s debut collection during this opening night. A strong diversified and colourful collection of mens and womenswear looks inspired by religions and spirituality. Oversized pants, deconstructed tops as well as suits, asymmetric dresses and sweaters in which a spiral shape seemed a recurring theme. Worn in a modern, urban way, styled off with some strong heavy soled footwear and outstanding accessoires (big belts decorated with small key chains). Fluid and at times voluminous looks that portrayed a strong style message, but also spoke of freedom of spirituality. As a wide range of materials kept things interesting, the color palette of yellow, pastel pink, licht blue and camel brought extra positivity. A joyful collection and a debut that perfectly suited this opening night. A splendid start of this fashion filled week.
