Ala Blanka by Anbasja Blanken Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week
Ala Blanka wasn’t your average womenswear catwalk show. The show was evolved around luxury trousers Anbasja Blanken has been focusing on as a designer. And so her collection visualised the shape and movement of a selection of some good looking pants designed for strong, elegant women. Anbasja combined soft pastel shades with special structured fabrics. Inpspired by dance influences from ‘la danseuse de la Belle Epoque’ she came up with sheer pants, shiny pants, embroidered pants, pleated pants and peplum pants. All based around the idea that a design should elegantly move together with the body and all of them made a definite fashion statement. The finale piece, a pair of bridal trousers looked so ravishingly chic many women might consider ditching the classic white dress for their marriage after tonight.
Bound Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week
Bound Amsterdam founders Maras Rejaän and Sheila Lopes Afonso were inspired by a Japanese film for their ‘Class of 2017’ collection, their third collection since they founded their brand in 2014. They turned influences from the styling and the characters into clean, minimalistic pieces.
As the show started two girls dressed in menswear looks appeared from behind a giant wall of speakers. They casually walked the runway with a cool attitude making way for the eighteen menswear (yet unisex) looks that followed. Nothing too trendy or hype sensitive, as you’d expect from a anti fast fashion brand. Just solid, quite timeless pieces made with qualitative materials.
A heavy army green overall looked both cool and comfy. Same goes for a beige colored knitted coat. The pinstripe suit and the woolen pants paired with turtle neck and suspenders belong in the classic menswear corner. Outfits that have proved to stand the test of time and will impress streetstyle photogs as well as relatives. And that might just all we’re looking for in a menswear fashion brand these days.
Given Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week
Dancers and live entertainment turned the Given show into a spectacle. An impressive show with an extensive line-up of both womenswear and menswear looks. All very wearable and on trend, looks the youngsters in the audience will be lining up for once f/w2017 hits the stores. Tight jeans, pencil skirts, leather jackets, ruffled blouses, skater skirts high heels and warm winter boots for the ladies. Sweaters, long shirts, leather jackets, slim fit jeans and though boots for the lads. Perfectly wearable fashion the Given customer can easily mix and match with the rest of his/her wardrobe. That’s a given.
Toos Franken + Maaike van den Abbeele Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week
Belgian designer Toos Franken is on a roll. After opening her own store in Balen last year, she is now set to conquer the Dutch market with the namesake label she founded in 2014. A career goal that starts with a fashion show during Amsterdam Fashion Week. And so Toos Franken experienced her fashion week debut with a small LAB show on Saturday afternoon. Here she showed a line-up of classic, timeless, minimalistic, quite androgynous looks in a black, beige and blue colored collection named Micro Manifesto. Tailored jackets, oversized sweaters with a good fit. Perfectly wearable items that become special once you take a closer look to really see the detailing and the way an item is finished. The type of clothes Dutch women might fall for as Toos is planning on adding many more selling point to the one she already has in Den Bosch.
Inspired by art, architecture, Japan and her two nationalities Maaike van den Abbeele came up with her diversified collection MA_JAPAN of menswear and womenswear looks this afternoon. Looks you might want to describe as both wearable and extravagant. High pony tail sporting models wore colourful kimono’s, bomber jackets, tight fitting jackets with pointy shoulders and origami detaling, skater skirts and platform shoes. They carried eyecatching bags as well as some intriguing face masks. Outfits that had JAPAN spelled all over them, but might just work for the fashion forward Dutch customer too.

Tess van Zalinge Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week
Oversized suits meet lingerie; Friday night Tess van Zalinge treated us to her collection filled with Dutch history. Tess collaborated with Royal Delft, which lead to Delfts Blauw and The girl with the pearl earring influences being visible throughout the collection. A collection which formed a certain clash between what is functional and what is sensual. And so we saw the tightest body suits and sheer white tops come down the runway as well as a floor sweeping coat and structured jackets. Knitting, folding, weaving and laser cutting were some of the techniques used for this collection. Beautiful were the origami style peplums, especially a royal blue one paired with some wide legged pants looked strong and contemporary. Designs were covered in some exclusive Delfts Blauw prints and a faded marble print. Prints that formed the base of the collection’s color palette of blues and whites. From simple tops and blouses to skirts, dressed up pants, body suits and dream dresses; this collection had all the right ingredients. Items the audience is able to already buy, since Tess van Zalinge is – in line with the see now buy now trend – already selling her collection at X-Bank in Amsterdam. Go get it while it’s hot!

ALEXANDRAFRIDA Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week
Inspired by the thousand and one night stories Alexandra Frida presented her fall/winter collection for 2017 this Friday night. It was Scheherazade, a mysterious, Persian queen who told her husband a story with an open ending every single night, Alexandra had in mind when designing. This lead to lots of layering and a focus on the colors black, gold and pink. Airy, lightweight fabrics such as silk and lace represented the queen’s sensual side, while leather harnesses and details such a knitted ruffles, embroideries and beads stood for Scheherazade’s power. Alexandra also brought back her iconic feather print, symbolizing wings that give women the strength and faith to chase their dreams. A collaboration with Eye Wish Opticiens lead to all models sporting a pair of glasses. Glasses given a fun fashion twist with some of Alexandra Frida’s impressive 3D printed glasses accessories. And as the sounds of Arabian wedding singing / screaming continued Scheherazade’s women strutted along. No finale of evening gowns and wedding dresses, but a catwalk show with and open end.
