Ninamounah Catwalk Show Amsterdam Fashion Week 2019
Who knew giant snails could turn into a fashion accessory at some point? Friday night Ninamounah proved they could as they sent out some of their models holding living snails in their hands. Were they real? Were they alive? They sure had the audience buzzing as the show continued unraveling it’s mysteriousness. It was dark, almost too dark to fully focus on the models outfits. Lightweight organza, silk and heavy leather were in the mix. Sharp suiting, a lot of draping, knee high boots, extraordinary hair, arty eye make-up and crazy nail art were just some of the special ingredients of Ninamounah’s recipe. As the last model that came carried a net of mesh fabric around her head with living butterflies in it. Lots to discuss later on at the bar.

What better way to start the weekend than by watching a show filled with
the work of young design talents? Friday afternoon we all gathered at
de Nieuwe Kerk for the Lichting 2019 show. Fourteen graduates from seven
different fashion academies in the Netherlands all showed their
graduation collections in front of the Dutch fashion crowd and the
international judges. Fourteen very diverse collections touching today’s
themes. With his menswear collection entitled “Jack Saul”, inspired by
the beauty en struggles of a gay prostitute from the Victorian time,
designer Dylan Westerweel was chosen as this year’s winner. He won a
money prize of 10.000 euro and will get his own fashion show during the
next fashion week (as Ferry Schiffelers had this afternoon).

The winnner of last year’s Lichting show, Ferry Schiffelers, got the chance to show a full collection on Friday afternoon. A breathtakingly beautiful collection, which felt like a perfect fit with it’s show location (de Nieuwe Kerk). Layers and layers of tule, golden embroideries and a final dress completely made out of flowers. Elegant, delicate, graceful; what a delight to witness a show like this.

Last night Ronald van der Kemp kicked off Amsterdam Fashion Week with an evening filled fashion program. Almost every room at the Moco Museum was given a RvdK touch with pop art dresses, installations, clothing racks and the designers sketches. After the fashion guests had taken a look inside, they were invited outside for a little chat and some cocktails. Then, around ten Ronald shook things up as he sent out his models. Not just on an ordinary runway though, they came in on motorcycles, bikes and a car. All glammed up, dressed to the nines (in his latest 100% sustainable collection), only to get an extra touch up at Moco’s garden party a bit later. As Bella Hay spun some Golden Earring records by her hitsinger dad (who was attending the party himself) the Dutch fashion crowd enjoyed a splendid first Amsterdam Fashion Week night outside.
Streetwear Trend FW2019: Grab your Coat!
First piece we invest in once fall is around the corner? A (trench)coat! It’s the perfect item every autumn over again. We pair it with our summer dresses and open heels at first and then start changing it up with denim jeans and boots. A grey hoodie underneath a camel colored trench still makes up for a classic (you can never go wrong) combo. And if you’re in doubt about the weather, how about a fifty fifty coat like the olive green one in the gallery below? Grab your coat, let’s hit the streets!
Melanie Hazeleger Sale Graduation Show Summer 2019
“Sale”, “Sale”, “Sale”, every single look of Melanie Hazeleger’s collection had the words written on some part of it. And even though some looks might have cost just one Euro, that price tag didn’t make them less impressive. As summer is coming to and end, so is the (what often feels like a) never ending sale periode in fashion. Out with the old, in with the new. A fresh season ahead with new styles to explore. Adding a few new items can change the feeling of your whole closet. And then by selling a bunch of other stuff you’ll still be able to have an organized wardrobe before autumn really kicks in.
Summer/Fall 2019: Streetwear Transitioning
When it’s still hot (like the 30 degrees here in Amsterdam) outside but you still persist on wearing your complete new fall look. It’s transition phase! New collections are hitting stores, so you get all excited about new fits and colors. So excited you decide you’re just gonna wear ’em no matter the weather. You’ll be sweating your ass off all day, but you’ll look simply stunning in all the new designs.
Menswear Catwalk Fashion Trend FW2020: Down to Earth
As sustainability is an ever growing topic on our agenda’s, earthy tones are gaining popularity. Not black or grey, but brown, mustard, terracotta, beige, sand and chocolate colored looks are trending for upcoming season. Both at the menswear and the womenswear department. Our favorite thing about this trend? All colors go so well together it’s never been easier to mix and match the items from your wardrobe. Better start blending in. High profile looks with a down to earth mentality.
Catwalk Fashion Trend FW2020: Long Gloves
Time to get your hands dirty (well, not really) and dig into this fall trend. Long gloves are a trend again and here’s how you can rock ’em. Just look at the various ways Balmain, Alberta Ferretti, Erdem and Dries van Noten styled them at their shows. Pick your favorite and it’ll surely fit like a glove.
Catwalk Fashion Trend FW2020: Cape Town (part III)
It’s a typical fall trend that comes knocking every few seasons. The cape! And even though it doesnt really look like your average everyday fashion item, the cape is conquering grounds. Remember how designers introduced the cape for last year’s autumn? Quite diverse compared to this year actually. And do you still recall how the cape was worn on the streets back in 2016? We also set aside the cape for men as early as in 2012. So fact is; the cape is a keeper. For fw2020 Céline, Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu and Offwhite gave us their best cape impressions. Very fairytalelike at Jacobs and quite tought at Miu Miu. Also, overall the cape was long and statement making. Has the cape sparked your interest? Pair it with some good denim jeans and knee high boots. You’ll no doubt look (cape) fearless!
