BEAUTY TREND SS2016: (L)ashes to (l)ashes

Audrey Hepburn once said: ‘For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others.’ We can’t disagree on that one for sure, but this summer a good pair of eyes also stands her ground by some fake ol’ lashes. This season we were introduced to the spidery long false lashes (did they ever actually leave the fashion scene anyway?!). Make it big, exaggerated and doll-like seems to be the message from several designers. Make those eyes pop out like never before.
Marni showed clusters of lashes both applied to the lower and upper lash lines for a doll-like effect. Although XXL, it was still sophisticated in some way. And of course there was makeup wonderwoman Pat McGrath to take on the Louis Vuitton models with a pair of heavy futuristic false lashes. Like Japanese cartoon style but in a modern way. And Giorgio Armani took the gentle way, for a little bit more romance. I hear you thinking: yeah right, like I got time for that in the morning? You hear the clock ticking and your mascara is most times a 1-minute fix (or an actual catastrophe). You have clumps and lumps in your lashes and it’s all over your face even before you enter the office. Great! Well, actually it is great, because that’s exactly where you’re heading towards. Make sure you first use lengthening mascara and afterwards a volume mascara. And make it thick, black and playful. And use fake lashes like you never did before. What else can we say: wave those lashes, baby.
BEAUTY TREND SS2016: Special Effect

Do not try this at home. Some of the most outstanding beauty looks of this season might have been the icing on the cake of an incredible runway outfit, in real life they won’t have the same special effect. Not only will you run the risk of looking ridiculous, you won’t even be able to recreate those beauty extravaganzas by yourself. DIY is a no go. We admit, those quilted smokey eyes looked to die for on Kendall Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid. But since we already have a hard time drawing a smooth eyeliner we won’t even go there. Same goes for the bright colored fantasy eye make-up at Fendi. On the runway it was a success, in the streets it’s bound to turn out as a mess. The full on glitter faces we spotted at Burberry and Julien McDonald sure had us inspired for any upcoming glamorous partay, although we will not go all the way like the make-up artists did backstage. Their was one crazy beauty trend we can actually try at home. Thanks to the launch of Armani Beauty’s red mascara (Black Ecstasy) we can now actually try out those red eyelashes we spotted at the Emporio Armani show. Of course in a more subtle way. Oh and we’ll keep in mind those (kinda scary) doll eyes the models at Dorhout Mees were sporting. They might just turn this year’s Halloween appearance into a hit.
WOMENSWEAR TREND SS2016: Ponytail Plus
Sure, the clothes are very important during fashion week. But no finishing business without the hair. A woman prizes her hair over anything else. It’s like a big cream cake that needs some strawberries to top it off, right? Luckily, the majority of hair and beauty trends are surprisingly easy to pull off (woohoo!), like the upgraded ponytail.
We know the classic ponytail for years and years now. It’s something our mothers loved giving us to dress up with. Nothing new about that. But this season we see many different spins on this golden oldie. Because same shit, different day, it makes you bored out of your mind. The great thing about ponytails is that it’s pretty easy to DIY and still make you look completely different ánd sophisticated. So how to upgrade the usual ponytail? You have several options. According to Oscar de la Renta and Dior, add a classic fabric accessory ASAP. Just a simple ribbon around it can do the trick. Want something more classy and high fashion, opt for Balmain’s high, slick variation. And Marni, Miu Miu, and Chanel only had one important question: why stick to one when you can have two? Bring in the double tails gals! Although it’s a risky look, because it might result in something really girly and youthful, there are enough examples of how to pull it off as an adult. And with the daring make-up looks and likewise attitude, it wasn’t even close to girlish. It was actually le freak c’est chic.
STREETSTYLE TREND SS2016: RAINBOW HAIR

Didn’t we all dream of rainbow hair as little girls at one point? This summer fashion lovers around the world (and especially in the city of London) seem to be fulfilling that life long dream coloring their hair in the brightest of colors. Not just pink or mint green, but a whole range of shades for that jaw dropping, head turning effect. Anna dello Russo already proved that, styled in the right way (with a printed Gucci dress, that is), a rainbow do can compliment your outfit. Like a brand new it-bag it can create that instant on trend look. Lucky for us professional hair brands are coming up with the coolest inventions to color or chalk your hair for just a short period of time. Whether faded pink or poppy red; anyone can give this beauty trend a go without damaging their hair. Now let’s look for a rainbow dress to match our freshly colored locks, shall we? Rainbows and unicorns, color me blind.

Beauty Trend Report FW2016: If you’re a lip girl…

I’m sorry, but did we just hear a sigh over there? A slightly annoyed sigh, breathing ‘here we go again, red lips bla bla’. Red lipstick doesn’t sound all to ground-breaking these days. But let’s not judge so quickly, shall we? Cause aren’t we as women just lucky bastards that we get to wear red lipstick every season, adding some extra something something to ourselves. Something that makes every woman slightly more attractive, sexy and elegant. That adds a little colour and sparkle to our sometimes hung-over pale faces (especially after last night during winter) and is the perfect compagnon to any nighttime (NYE!)event. For some it’s even a signature that really pulls us together. And if you’re not much of an eye girl, a red lip is your second best option. And the best part: it’s easy to recreate at home (bingo!). The only extra thing we need to do for now is tap into our 90’s mood again (I know it’s been long) and choose how deep and dramatic we’re prepared to go, because it can go quite deep this season. Follow Carolina Herrera’s and Donna Karan’s lead with Berry lips, or plum black lips as seen at Marc Jacobs. And what about a vivid crimson pout like Phillip Lim’s models? Tip: skip the red lipliner and use a clear lip pencil instead.
